Stiga Nostalgic Allround

All-wood
90 grams1218 Hz$69

Blade description:

This blade is an all-wood construction that prioritizes exceptional control and feedback. It is widely regarded as a reliable option for developing players, offering a high throw angle that facilitates consistent loop-to-loop play. Its performance characteristics draw frequent comparisons to classic all-wood blades, emphasizing a high-quality feel that provides confidence during strokes.

Playing Characteristics

  • Feel and Dwell: The blade features a unique combination of stiffness and flexibility. While it possesses a firm top layer, the overall sensation remains accessible, offering notable dwell time that aids in generating spin.
  • Speed and Control: Classified at an OFF- speed level, it provides sufficient pace for offensive play without sacrificing accuracy. The control is consistently noted as outstanding, making it predictable during both defensive adjustments and aggressive attacking shots.
  • Trajectory: Due to its flex and construction, the blade produces a high arc, which is particularly beneficial for two-winged loopers who require safety and clearance over the net.

The blade serves as a versatile tool for those transitioning from beginner to intermediate levels, as well as for players who prefer traditional wooden feedback over composite layers. Its weight distribution and solid construction offer stable performance, ensuring clear sensory input during every swing.

I have tried the Viscaria Super ALC, Treiber CI OFF, Nittaku Acoustic, and a bunch of 5-layer wooden blades. This blade is always my go-to.

What I like about this blade is the nice dwell time, which gives it a high throw and amazing control. It’s flexy but hard. I have paired it with a Yasaka Rakza Z on the backhand and a Friendship Battle 2 Prov on the forehand.

My level is around 1000 points, where 2500 points is the highest national ranking in Sweden, so I am a developing intermediate player. If you can get a slightly heavier blade than average, making it a little faster (9.0), then this is a complete dream for a two-winged looper.

Comparing it to the Nittaku Acoustic, it is about the same speed level but with a slightly higher throw and better control. When I raise my level, I will probably switch to a Treiber CI OFF, which has almost the same throw angle but a bit more carbon-fiber kick.
