Performance Characteristics

The Stiga Hybrid Wood is an all-wood offensive blade that offers a balance between high-end speed and technical control. It is characterized by its stability, particularly during blocks and aggressive offensive strokes. The blade exhibits a wide range of “gears,” allowing for precise touch in the short game while providing significant power for mid-to-long distance play. It is described as stiff and hard, yet it maintains enough flex to facilitate effective looping and spin generation.

Construction and Feel

  • Construction: This is an all-wood blade (not a composite or carbon blade).
  • Feel: Users report a “vibration-free” experience with a large sweet spot, offering excellent feedback that helps the player track ball contact.
  • Weight and Balance: This is a heavy blade, typically weighing between 92g and 99g. The head-heavy distribution is a recurring theme; some players may find this requires careful selection of lightweight rubbers to maintain an overall balanced setup.
  • Handling: The blade is factory-sealed with Stiga’s NCT (Nano Composite Technology). While the handle is generally well-regarded, the overall head size and weight distribution can be a factor for those sensitive to balance.

Playing Recommendations

The Hybrid Wood is generally categorized as an OFF to OFF+ blade, making it suitable for advanced offensive players. It performs reliably across a variety of rubber types, including tensor-style rubbers, Chinese-style rubbers, and pips-out configurations. Because the blade is heavy, many users suggest pairing it with medium to medium-soft sponges to optimize the weight and feel, though it is versatile enough to handle hard-sponge setups for power-oriented play.

“An OFF+ blade with many gears”

Feeling wise, I don’t think that the blade is more bouncy than hard wood blade such as Intensity or YEO. The blade is very stable on block and the speed of the block is very controllable just like ALL+ to OFF- blade. However, the rating is correctly stated as OFF+ when looping or hitting. The blade can generate more power to any distance from the table. Beware that for the close-to table looping, the blade angle has to be much closer comparing to 5-plys blade or the ball will definitely fly off the table.

The blade feels not so hard on lower gear and hard on higher gear, but you get enough flex for looping. Although the blade is much thinner than my YEO, the weight of the blade limits the choice of rubber. I think the blade is best paired with medium to medium-soft rubbers. For reference, I use Yasaka Shinning Dragon max on the FH side and Stiga Mendo 2.0 on the BH.

This blade is exceptionally reliable. Upon close inspection, there are no discernible weaknesses to be found.

Very good blade and good looking too. I really like this blade, but I had to replace it due to its head size, which is smaller than normal.
