Soft Sponge and Non-Tacky Surface:

Compared to most Chinese rubbers, the sponge is soft, with an estimated hardness of 30 degrees. The rubber is also relatively light.

Lacking Speed and Spin:

Despite the soft sponge, the rubber lacks speed and spin. The non-tacky surface contributes to this deficit, making it difficult to generate topspin or impart significant spin on the ball.

Control and Medium-Low Throw Angle:

The rubber offers good control, enabling players to place shots accurately. However, the throw angle is medium-low, requiring players to adjust their stroke to avoid hitting the net.

Defensive Capabilities:

Blocking is challenging due to the lack of speed. While pushing, chopping, and serving backspin are controlled, the non-tacky surface hinders the creation of spin.

Overall Assessment:

Overall, this rubber is not recommended for players seeking speed or spin. Despite its soft sponge, it lacks these essential characteristics. While it provides good control, this advantage is insufficient to compensate for the rubber’s shortcomings. The fact that it is marketed as a non-defensive rubber further adds to its disappointment.

Nittaku Handel Blue Sponge Rubber Review

The Nittaku Handel Blue Sponge rubber features a soft sponge, similar to Chinese rubbers, with a slight tension. It resembles German rubbers in its characteristics. This rubber excels in blocking techniques.

The surface of the rubber is non-tacky and offers limited grip. It is designed for close-to-the-table play. While it is not a bad rubber overall, especially considering its price, the Neo versions are superior, particularly for forehand strokes. This rubber falls under the “Off” style category, as opposed to “Off+”.
