DHS Hurricane 3 (No. 19 Sponge)

Rubber description:

This rubber is a sticky variant of the DHS Hurricane 3 series, featuring the #19 sponge. It is characterized by a low inherent speed, often requiring significant physical effort or the application of speed glue to generate substantial power. The rubber is particularly well-suited for close-to-the-table play, as its performance profile diminishes significantly when playing away from the table.

Playing Characteristics

  • Spin and Tackiness: The topsheet exhibits high levels of tackiness, capable of lifting a ball with ease. It produces a reliable arc and strong spin levels, though it lacks the “catapult” or spring effect found in modern tensioned rubbers. The spin generation is directly proportional to the player’s stroke speed and mechanics.
  • Speed and Control: Due to its slow nature, it offers a high degree of control, making it a viable option for players who prioritize placement, chopping, or controlled looping over raw speed.
  • Physical Properties: The #19 sponge contributes to a lighter overall weight compared to other versions of the Hurricane series. While it may require an adjustment period to master, the rubber is noted for its high durability and consistent performance over time.

Good one for my backhand. I am able to loop well.

Too slow!

You will need to use organic glue to use this rubber to produce fast enough shots.

Good throw angle and spin and durability though.

Very spinny rubber that generates a good arc. It takes some time to get control of but is very durable. I use it on my backhand as a CPen user.
