DHS Hurricane 3-50 Soft
Rubber description:
This is a hybrid rubber characterized by a traditional Chinese tacky topsheet paired with a soft sponge. It is designed to bridge the gap between traditional hard-sponge Chinese rubbers and more elastic alternatives. The tackiness on the surface provides significant grip, making it well-suited for service spin, short-game placement, and controlled backhand flicks.
Playing Characteristics
- Speed and Catapult: The rubber exhibits a linear behavior where the speed is largely dependent on the input force; slow strokes remain controlled, while hard, aggressive swings generate respectable pace. It lacks the aggressive, built-in catapult effect found in high-tension European rubbers, which rewards players who prefer a predictable trajectory without unexpected speed bursts.
- Spin and Dwell: The combination of a sticky surface and a softer sponge allows for good spin production, particularly on opening loops and serve variations. While the soft sponge facilitates ease of use, it can sometimes limit the depth of engagement compared to harder, traditional Chinese options.
- Control and Feel: Users report a high degree of confidence in the short game and blocking, as the lack of an intense catapult effect minimizes unforced errors. It is noted for its ability to stabilize faster or carbon-heavy blades, providing a “safe” feel that allows players to swing through the ball with high reliability.
Suitability
This rubber is particularly useful for players focusing on technique development or those who prioritize placement and tactical control over raw power. While some users find it effective for long-distance counter-looping, its performance is highly sensitive to the blade pairing and the user’s personal preference regarding sponge-to-tack balance. Due to its unique construction, it may require specific adjustment if a player is transitioning from either full tension or traditional, stiff-sponge Chinese rubbers.

Well, this rubber is quite dead without boosting. However, when boosted, it doubles all the original aspects: speed, spin, and tackiness, while the hardness remains the same. The feeling after boosting is terrific; I liked it a lot. If you are planning to test this rubber, do not forget to boost it.
The rubber allows for amazing opening shots, nice serves, and very controlled topspin forehand drives. It produces a beautiful clicking sound reminiscent of the old speed glue days.
I rated the rubber based on its performance when boosted.

I stumbled upon this rubber while browsing the internet, and what attracted me to it was the soft medium sponge, which I believed would suit my blades perfectly. I have a collection of carbon and fast blades, so I felt this rubber would enhance my game. My only concern was the price; it was selling for £23.99 on eBay UK, which I found to be quite pricey given that I need several rubbers for my collection. Therefore, I ordered this rubber from AliExpress for £17.22, which took two weeks to arrive.
When I received the rubber and opened the package, my first impression was the quality of both the black and red rubbers. The red rubber is slightly heavier at 65 grams, while the black weighs 55 grams. Assembling the rubber onto my blade, I realized it is not a built-in glue rubber or a tensor, so I expected it to be slow. I also noted its tackiness. I used a Palio 05 carbon blade and glued the rubber with seven layers of water-based speed glue.
I used the bat for two hours during training two days later, and I was impressed by the quality of the rubber. I started with forehands and was pleased with the pace. What stood out to me was the control. The topspin was fast, depending on how hard I swung, and it was quick enough to put the ball away. The backhand was similar, but I found it to be excellent for control. If you possess a weak backhand, this rubber will undoubtedly improve it.
Another striking feature is how the ball sticks to the rubber. I was so impressed that I reordered another set of rubbers for another carbon blade. This is one of the best rubbers I have used in a long time. Respect to Hurricane!

I applied it to my Wang Hao 3 racket. The looping capabilities are acceptable, and the control is good. However, the blocking performance is lacking due to the soft sponge. I believe that using a medium sponge could potentially enhance both blocking and defensive capabilities.
