This table tennis rubber is a classic inverted rubber, identified as a “Hurricane 3 Provincial 40’ blue sponge,” though the brand is unknown. Based on the “Hurricane 3” designation, it’s highly likely this rubber is designed for offensive players who prioritize spin and control over outright speed. The “Provincial” designation suggests a higher quality, more carefully selected version of the standard Hurricane 3, often with tighter tolerances and potentially a more consistent performance. The “40’” likely refers to the sponge hardness, indicating a medium-hard sponge that provides a good balance between dwell time for spin generation and power for driving the ball. The blue sponge is a common feature of higher-end Chinese rubbers, often associated with enhanced elasticity and a more catapult-like effect.
The playing characteristics of this rubber would lean towards high spin potential, excellent control, and moderate speed. It excels at generating heavy topspin loops, both close to the table and from mid-distance. The tackiness of the topsheet allows for exceptional grip on the ball, facilitating aggressive serves and pushes. While not the fastest rubber on the market, its spin-oriented nature allows players to dictate the pace and trajectory of the game. The medium-hard sponge provides a solid feel and allows for powerful shots when needed, but requires good technique to fully utilize its potential.
This rubber is ideally suited for offensive players who rely on spin variations and placement to win points. Loopers who prefer to attack with heavy topspin from both wings will find this rubber particularly effective. It’s also a good choice for players who prioritize control and consistency in their short game. While suitable for intermediate to advanced players, beginners might find the tackiness and demanding technique required to generate spin challenging. The “Provincial” version suggests a higher level of performance and consistency, making it a good choice for serious players looking for a reliable and spin-oriented rubber.
Very good rubber for forehand! I like it a little more than normal H3. The only downside is that it is less tacky than normal H3. But I play better with it anyway! So, if the price is not a problem, go for it!
The rubber has good control, but poor spin and speed.
As expected for Chinese rubbers, they need to be boosted, they need to be committed with your movement, and also require some maintenance (re-glued each 1-2 weeks). If you are ready to do that, you will have a really good stuff in your hand… easy to make short returns (even when the opponent’s serve comes a little bit long), unexpected spin to your opponent, amazing arc with a low throw, and an unbelievable counterattack against top spin.
