DHS Hurricane 3 Provincial 40' blue sponge

Rubber description:

This rubber is a sticky Chinese-style sheet known for its high-density, very hard sponge. It is specifically designed for aggressive, high-level players who employ large, powerful swings and have developed advanced physical technique and footwork. Unlike tensor rubbers, which rely on built-in tension for speed, this rubber requires the player to provide the energy through active strokes to avoid a “dead” feel.

Playing Characteristics

  • Spin and Control: The tacky topsheet excels at generating significant spin on serves and short touch shots. It provides a unique, controlled arc that helps in executing precise loops, though it demands commitment to the stroke to unlock its full potential.
  • Speed and Power: While it offers reliable performance for loops and power-loops, it stands out in flat hits, counter-hits, and drives. It is resistant to “bottoming out” during high-impact shots, making it more stable than standard commercial versions during fast-paced exchanges.
  • Tactical Considerations: Users frequently note that this rubber performs optimally when boosted, which enhances its liveliness and feel. It is best paired with blades that have a higher throw angle to compensate for the rubber’s naturally low-trajectory arc.

Usage Requirements

Because of its professional-grade construction, this rubber is not recommended for beginners or players lacking refined stroke mechanics. It requires consistent maintenance, including regular re-gluing and the application of boosters to achieve peak performance. When paired with the correct blade—typically a composite blade with a koto outer ply—it offers high-quality feedback and a distinct performance advantage for players who demand stability during intense counter-attacking sequences.

Very good rubber for forehand! I like it a little more than normal H3. The only downside is that it is less tacky than normal H3. But I play better with it anyway! So, if the price is not a problem, go for it!

The rubber has good control, but poor spin and speed.

As expected for Chinese rubbers, they need to be boosted, they need to be committed with your movement, and also require some maintenance (re-glued each 1-2 weeks). If you are ready to do that, you will have a really good stuff in your hand… easy to make short returns (even when the opponent’s serve comes a little bit long), unexpected spin to your opponent, amazing arc with a low throw, and an unbelievable counterattack against top spin.
