DHS PF4 40+

Rubber description:

This rubber is a classic, budget-friendly sticky Chinese-style rubber designed primarily for training and developing fundamental table tennis strokes. It features a tacky topsheet paired with a hard sponge, making it effective for learning to generate spin and executing controlled loops. Due to its tacky nature, it performs well for heavy backspin serves, flicking, and lifting underspin, though users should be prepared to maintain the surface as it can attract dust.

Playing Characteristics

  • Spin and Speed: The rubber offers high spin potential when used with proper, aggressive strokes. It is inherently slow, providing a controlled, “dead” feel on soft shots that benefits players looking to slow down the pace of the game.
  • Control and Dwell: The hard sponge provides excellent touch for blocking and ball placement. It is generally recommended to pair this rubber with a medium-flexible or offensive-grade blade to compensate for its low inherent speed.
  • Suitability: While favored by beginners for stroke development, its tacky characteristics and durability allow it to serve as a capable option for intermediate players or those transitioning toward higher-level, offensive Chinese-style looping. It is less suitable for consistent chopping at a distance, as it can struggle to maintain depth.

The rubber is a cost-effective alternative to other DHS rubbers, such as the Hurricane series. It is designed as a training rubber, but its tackiness may diminish over time. Despite this, the rubber can assist in refining strokes and acquiring new techniques.

Due to its firm sponge, the rubber is recommended solely for forehand play. When paired with a pliable blade, it becomes an excellent tool for developing and enhancing loops, enabling players to outplay their opponents in competitive matches.

My first review: This rubber plays very well on flexible to medium flexible blades. My example is the 7-ply DHS PG7. I use this black, max sponge, on the forehand. The SMASH HIT (no spin on it) is very good, if you know the angle to hold the racket and works perfect if you do it fast on a backspin ball. I do not think it works well on stiff blades, but who knows…

It’s very good to do backspin SERVES and Serves in general.

It’s a little bit hard, but you can get used to it. Good for POLYBALL. (China rubber ^^)

I think this rubber can LAST A VERY LONG TIME without losing its properties, even if it will not look like brand new.

It’s very good for ADVANCED players. By the way, the player who wields it matters, not so much the racket.

Nice for beginner to intermediate players, it offers great value at this price range.
