Butterfly Jun Mizutani ZLC
Blade description:
This Zylon-Carbon composite blade utilizes a 5+2 construction, featuring a Limba outer veneer that provides a softer feel and improved dwell time compared to harder-veneered blades. While it is designed for offensive play, it offers a balance that prioritizes control and stable, deep ball trajectories over raw, unmanageable speed. Its composition allows for a medium-high throw angle, which aids in clearing the net during looping exchanges and flicking underspin shots.
Playing Characteristics
- Feel and Dwell: The blade is noted for its elastic Zylon-Carbon composition, which creates a soft, tactile sensation at impact. This allows the player to “grab” the ball, facilitating heavy spin generation and precise placement.
- Speed and Control: While capable of producing explosive power when paired with high-tension rubbers, it is not categorized as an ultra-fast carbon blade. It is well-suited for players who favor a looping-heavy game, especially from mid-to-long distance.
- Technical Requirements: Due to the nature of the composite fibers, the blade is demanding and requires a refined technical level. It provides minimal forgiveness for errors, making it better suited for intermediate to advanced players rather than beginners.
- Versatility: The blade performs effectively in the short game, offering steady blocking and reliable touch shots. It is highly compatible with both European-style tensor rubbers and performance-oriented rubbers like the Tenergy series.

Because the Mizutani ZLC has more speed and a medium-high throw, I created a setup with Yinhe Big Dipper 38 and DHS Hurricane 8 Medium (both unboosted).
The Big Dipper felt more like a European rubber and had less spin than the DHS Hurricane 8, but both had less spin than Fastarc G1 and Baracuda.
The setup weighed 189 grams (blade with Big Dipper = 141 grams), while the blade alone weighed 90 grams.

Very fast and hard blade. However, you don’t feel the ball very well. It is like a dead feeling on contact. Very good quality.

Really good blade when paired with tensor rubber. Balls' trajectory is very stable and quite deep on the table. It’s not a spin monster, but it’s enough to make dangerous shots.
