The Friendship/729 V-5 table tennis blade is a 5-ply all-wood blade designed for all-around play. It features a medium-soft feel, with a speed rating of 7.8 and a control rating of 8.8. The V-5 is an excellent choice for players who want a blade that offers a good balance of speed, control, and feel. It is also a popular choice for recreational and intermediate players who are looking for a blade that is easy to control and forgiving on mishits.
The V-5 is made with a limba outer ply, which gives it a crisp and responsive feel. The inner plies are made of ayous, which provides a solid foundation and helps to dampen vibration. The V-5 has a relatively stiff feel, with a stiffness rating of 5, which gives it good stability and power. However, it is not as stiff as some other blades, which makes it more forgiving and easier to control.
The V-5 is a versatile blade that can be used with a variety of playing styles. It is a good choice for players who like to play an all-around game, with a mix of attacking and defensive shots. It is also a good choice for players who like to loop, as the V-5 provides good spin and control.
Overall, the Friendship/729 V-5 is a well-rounded blade that is suitable for a wide range of players. It offers a good balance of speed, control, and feel, making it a great choice for all-around players and those who are looking for a forgiving and easy-to-control blade.
I’ve been using this blade for well over a year now. It is my first custom setup, and I absolutely love it. Paired with Stiga Calibra Tour M and Stiga Boost TC, it is very light, weighing in at 170 grams.
With the proper timing, I can generate a lot of speed and spin. This blade allows me to execute a wide range of shots, from smashes to short pushes to chops from mid-distance to the table.
The only minor issue I’ve encountered is that the top layer peels slightly when changing rubbers. However, this is a minor inconvenience that does not affect the overall performance of the blade.
Paired with LKT Rapid series (or other almost non-tacky rubbers), it is suitable for all-round to moderate offensive style. The blade feels quite soft with little flex. I believe it’s the carbon that gives it extra high gear at hard hits.
It works best in drives, is good for looping and chopping, and offers a lot of dwell time. It’s not as good for smashes in comparison to completely stiff blades.
It didn’t match DHS H3 Neo or 729 Geospin - the combo felt like a brick, probably because of stiffness.
Overall, it’s a very good all-round to offensive blade to be paired with Chinese euro-like rubbers.
