Tibhar Rapid
Rubber description:
This is a non-tensor, classic mechanical spin rubber. It is designed for players seeking an all-round performance with a focus on mechanical grip rather than chemical tension. Due to its construction, it requires the ball to penetrate the sponge deeply to unlock its full spin potential, making it well-suited for players who utilize deliberate strokes.
Playing Characteristics
- Spin and Dwell Time: This rubber relies entirely on mechanical spin generated through the contact between the ball and the topsheet. It provides high dwell time, especially when paired with stiffer, faster blades that allow the ball to bury into the soft, bouncy sponge.
- Trajectory and Speed: It features a notably low throw angle, which can make lifting heavy underspin more challenging. However, this low arc is advantageous for counter-looping and blocking, where the rubber provides consistent speed and stability.
- Versatility: The rubber is effective for various styles, including traditional Chinese-style backhand strokes. It excels at attacking short or medium-length serves and is highly capable of sustained counter-driving away from the table.
Performance Considerations
- Setup Dependency: The performance is highly dependent on the choice of blade. On softer blades, the dwell time is emphasized, while stiffer, faster blades help stabilize the low throw angle and improve performance for mid-distance play.
- Suitability: It functions as a balanced all-round rubber, performing well for both offensive blocking and controlled attacking play. Players transitioning from traditional, non-tensioned rubbers will find the mechanical nature of this rubber familiar, though adjustments to stroke technique may be required to compensate for the low arc when looping.

Good product.

I tried this (unglued) on a couple of different blades, all in the Off-/Off category. As advertised, the sponge is soft and bouncy, providing quite a bit of mechanical spin. The dwell time is high but is very dependent on the blade used.
On a Hunter Power Touch blade, the hang time was good; however, the very low throw angle was frustrating, making it challenging to loop underspin. Conversely, counter-looping and blocking loops were easy. Your experience will depend on what you’re looking for. I was hoping for an upgrade from Mark V rubbers, but this particular rubber did not meet my specifications.
Update: I tried the max version on a Nittaku blade (hard/stiff), and I noticed a big difference. Counter-driving away from the table was excellent, with a nice arc and good dwell time. However, near the table, it wasn’t as effective. This makes sense since the spin is all mechanical and the sponge is on the softer side, meaning the ball needs to bury itself in the sponge for maximum effect. The throw angle remains low.
