Blade description:

Characteristics and Performance

The Stiga Cybershape Carbon is a high-performance offensive composite blade featuring a unique hepta/octagonal head shape designed to optimize the hitting surface area and expand the sweet spot. Built with a carbon-fiber composite layer positioned closer to the core, this blade provides a balance of high-end speed and significant touch. While it delivers considerable power for aggressive play, it maintains a level of control that allows for precise blocking and versatile short-game performance.

Construction and Feel

  • Composition: This is a composite blade featuring an “inner” carbon construction (carbon layers placed closer to the core) combined with wood layers, often noted as a 5+2 construction.
  • Weight Distribution: The unconventional head shape effectively shifts the center of gravity toward the top of the racket, resulting in a head-heavy, “hammer-like” balance that aids in shot acceleration and provides more momentum on smashes and powerful loops.
  • Stiffness and Vibration: The blade is noted for its stiffness, which minimizes unwanted vibrations and translates to a crisp, direct feel during flat hits and high-speed exchanges.

Playing Dynamics

  • Blocking and Precision: The expanded effective hitting area facilitates consistent and stable blocking, making it highly reliable in defensive-to-offensive transitions.
  • Aggressive Play: While the blade is highly dynamic at mid-distance, it excels in backhand play and punch shots, offering an intuitive sense of angle control due to its geometric design.
  • Adaptation: Users should be prepared for a brief adjustment period to account for the unique head shape and the head-heavy weight distribution. It performs best when paired with rubbers that complement its internal stiffness, though players generally avoid overly hard rubber configurations to maintain an optimal balance of touch.

Blade’s sweet spot is noticeable, and flat hits really activate power of the blade. The stiffness is very noticeable vs the all-wood or ALC blades that I use. Underspin and flicks are not as difficult as I expected, but the stiffness is a little too much for me to adapt to during serve and spin rallies. Will continue to practice, but it is very fun to play with outside of competitive games.

  • Very stiff blade with a lot of power and surprisingly great control. Just don’t pair it with hard rubber.
  • Overall, Stiga’s blades quality is lower than Butterfly/Nittaku.

Large sweet spot. Excellent in speed with good control. One of the best blades for offensive players.
