Blade description:

This all-wood blade is a well-regarded option for players ranging from late beginners to intermediate levels. It offers a balanced playing profile that leans toward an all-round offensive (ALL+/OFF-) classification, providing a high level of stability and control for both defensive play and spin-oriented attacking.

Playing Characteristics

  • Feel and Construction: As an all-wood blade, it provides more dwell time and a less stiff feel compared to composite or carbon alternatives, making it easier to generate and control spin. It produces a distinct “pop” and clear sound during ball contact.
  • Speed and Control: The blade performs effectively for looping, blocking, and short touch play. While it is not an ultra-fast offensive blade, it remains capable of finishing points with power when paired with appropriate rubbers.
  • Weight and Handling: The weight can vary significantly between individual units, which influences the balance of the setup. Some players may find it head-heavy depending on the rubbers used, while others perceive it as manageable. The handle features a design that some users find slightly thin at the neck, and the wings may require light sanding out of the box to optimize comfort.

Equipment Pairing

The blade is versatile enough to be paired with a wide range of rubbers. It complements medium-fast tensioned rubbers well, enhancing stability and spin production. It is generally recommended to avoid pairing this blade with overly tacky rubbers, as the resulting combination can feel sluggish or excessively slow.

I’ve been playing for 30 years, but I’m coming from a carbon wood which was difficult to control when in a bad day. I love playing with spin and I do all I want with this Stiga. Defense, loops, smash, blocks… And I’m producing a lot of spin with my Rakza’s.

Although I love playing with spin, this isn’t a pure offensive wood. Depending on the rubbers used, it is versatile and can do anything.

My second blade, after coming from a carbon one, is wooden. It is much more suitable for late beginners or intermediate players like me. It offers more dwell time, is less stiff, and provides better control.

At one point, I felt like it might be too heavy for me to lift underspin with a backhand flick. However, that was due to my poor technique, as I was using only my wrist instead of my whole body or forearm.

After trying a much lighter blade, I came back to this one because I appreciate its weight, stability, and control. The speed is just right for me—not too fast or uncontrollable, but powerful enough to finish points. I don’t think it has too much vibration, but I don’t find that necessary. It is a well-balanced, good-quality blade.

Both looping and short touches feel easy. I would recommend it as a first blade, and I’ll probably use this blade for as long as I play because it suits me well and I’m accustomed to it.

Excellent Blade. This is my second real blade. After hours of usage, it still feels light to me. I don’t have a measurement tool, but it is light in my hand. Maybe my first blade was too heavy.

Nice pop! Nice sound during splashing.
