Victas Koji Matsushita Special
Blade description:
This is an all-wood defensive blade, designed specifically to meet the technical requirements of modern defensive play. It provides a balanced performance profile, offering high levels of control and a soft, tactile feel that is particularly effective for executing precise chopping strokes and disrupting an opponent’s rhythm with heavy underspin.
Playing Characteristics
- Performance: The blade functions primarily as an “ALL” (all-round) speed category. While it excels at controlled defensive play and short game maneuvers, it retains sufficient power for offensive counter-attacks when necessary.
- Feel and Feedback: Users report a soft touch despite the blade possessing a degree of stiffness compared to other defensive models. This stability aids in generating tense, low-trajectory defensive shots.
- Strategic Suitability: Due to its stability and forgiveness, it serves as an excellent platform for players developing their defensive game or for those transitioning toward more complex equipment.
Structural Observations
- Construction: This is an all-wood construction, which provides the natural, responsive feedback characteristic of wood blades during offensive hits.
- Weight and Balance: The blade typically weighs around 84g. Users have noted potential issues regarding the durability of the handle attachment, suggesting that the weight distribution may influence the overall integrity of the construction over time.
- Ergonomics: The handle design is reported to be slightly smaller than average, which may impact the grip for players with larger hands.

A good choice for a defensive playing style!

(Mine is only 84g.) It took me a few hours to get familiar with the feeling: something stiff compared to other Matsushita blades, but still with a soft touch. On the forehand side (usual VS401, 2mm), it was immediately satisfying: control is high, speed is more than enough (ALL), everything went like a dream.
At first try, the backhand was a little bit strange (usual Curl P1V, 0.5mm): surprisingly slow. Even comparing to KM Defensive, I had to constantly go forward with the pimple, especially on short games and service receives, to avoid the net. I bet it’s a matter of throw angle since the overall speed is not super slow.
Chopping with LP needed a few adjustments to obtain tense trajectories. After 3 sessions, I got some huge underspin with a low trajectory, and finally, pushes are pretty disrupting for opponents. KM Special is a very stable blade for choppers; the balance between control and power is one of the best to me.

I find that this blade accommodates my needs as a modern defender.
It has enough power when I need to attack, but it is also very nice to execute defensive strokes such as chopping.
Overall, I would say that this blade is splendid for a modern defender, and if you don’t want any compromises, look no further.
