Butterfly Tackiness Chop is a specialized table tennis rubber designed primarily for players who employ defensive techniques, particularly the chop. Renowned for its exceptional spin-producing capabilities, this rubber provides an excellent foundation for generating backspin on serves and chop shots. With a speed rating of 6.5, it is not designed for aggressive offensive play; rather, it excels in control and spin, boasting an impressive spin rating of 10 and control of 8.5. This makes it a favorable choice for choppers who rely on precision and deception.
The tackiness of the rubber, rated at 5.7, allows players to grip the ball securely, enabling the transfer of substantial spin during play. Its weight, classified as medium at 3.7, contributes to a balanced feel without being cumbersome. The rubber’s soft sponge hardness (2 on a scale) further enhances its ability to absorb impact, allowing players to execute precise chops and blocks while maintaining good consistency with a rating of 9.2.
Durability is rated at 7, indicating that while it may wear out quicker than some other rubbers, it maintains a good performance level throughout its lifespan. I played with Tackiness Chop 1.9 black on an old Alfa Pro model. It provides tremendous spin on stopped balls for serving, excellent chopping, and excellent spin looping. Fast looping moves appear in slow motion. However, fishing requires a lot of effort due to the slow sponge. It is probably better to chop away from the table and wait for a push that you can spin loop rather than exchange topspins.
Rubber is fantastic for people who like to defend with a chop. I have combined it with a blade ARTTE NUVOLA. It’s a very precise rubber, easy to use, and with great reversal.
Thin-sponged version 1.1 makes more backspin than its thicker sponge version. If you want more topspin ability, choose a 1.3-1.5, which still retains chisel’s good properties provided you clean it regularly to retain the tack.
However, it becomes too reactive to spin on serve returns as you progress to higher levels. In such cases, long pimple is a better option for backhand. Nevertheless, I still like thin-sponged version 1.1 and revisit it every once in a while.
