The Hurricane 3 Neo National 37’ is an inverted (smooth) table tennis rubber designed for offensive players seeking exceptional spin and control. This rubber is known for its tacky topsheet, which allows for aggressive looping and generating heavy topspin on serves and attacks. The “Neo” designation indicates that the rubber has been pre-tuned with a booster, enhancing its elasticity and responsiveness right out of the package. While the brand is unknown, the “National” designation often implies a higher quality, potentially selected or modified version of a standard Hurricane 3 Neo, often used by professional or national-level players. The 37’ likely refers to the sponge hardness, indicating a relatively soft sponge (37 degrees on the Chinese hardness scale).
This rubber excels in close-to-the-table play, providing excellent feeling and control for short pushes, flicks, and blocks. The tacky surface grips the ball exceptionally well, allowing players to dictate the spin of the rally. While not the fastest rubber on the market, the Hurricane 3 Neo National 37’ prioritizes spin generation and placement accuracy over outright speed. It’s particularly well-suited for players who rely on spin-oriented attacks, controlled blocking, and precise short game. The softer sponge provides a longer dwell time, further enhancing spin and control, making it a good choice for players who want to feel the ball and dictate the pace of the game.
Decided to see how a Chinese rubber would do on my backhand. I have used Chinese rubbers on my forehand for over 50 years starting with 729 and PF4 before Double Hurricane became available in Japan where I have lived for the past 60 years. Switching from a tension rubber on my backhand to Hurricane 3 Neo National 37, I couldn’t be happier. Of course, it needs a lot of boosting, but it produces a very stable and consistent backhand loop drive that is a monster! When it comes to hitting flat (no spin), it is no problem. Even though most Chinese players use tension rubbers on their backhands, I think I’m going to stay with Hurricane 3 Neo National 37 on my backhand.
Perfect!
So good…! I use this for my forehand as I was trained in the classic Chinese style, preferring strong loops for attacks. This piece of rubber is extremely sticky, which means you’ll need to put a lot more effort and strength into your moves, but it is perfect for amazing spins and fits my style great.
