DHS Hurricane 3 Neo Provincial 37'

Rubber description:

This hybrid rubber features a tacky topsheet paired with a soft sponge, emphasizing spin production and precise short-game control. It is well-suited for players who prioritize touch shots, service returns, and varied placements over raw finishing power. Due to its deliberate speed profile, it performs most effectively when paired with faster, carbon-reinforced blades to compensate for its inherent lack of bounciness.

Playing Characteristics

  • Spin and Trajectory: The rubber is highly capable of generating significant spin, producing a distinctive arc and trajectory changes upon bouncing that can disrupt an opponent’s timing.
  • Control and Short Game: It excels at technical play within the table, allowing for short pushes, service returns, and flicks. The sponge provides a stable and predictable response, though it requires consistent ball handling and a refined stroke to maximize its potential.
  • Speed and Power: As a slower rubber, it lacks the immediate “second gear” needed for aggressive put-away shots compared to high-end professional rubbers. Users may find that boosting is necessary—particularly when paired with outer-ply carbon blades—to increase speed for mid-distance play.

Technical Requirements

  • Stroke Mechanics: Success with this rubber depends on a clean, practiced stroke. The soft sponge demands active input from the player to engage the topsheet effectively.
  • Setup Optimization: It is recommended for use on fast, stiff blades, such as those with ALC or outer-ply carbon compositions, to offset the rubber’s lower speed and capitalize on its ability to dampen bounciness during touch play.

This rubber is very nice!

I used it on my backhand of a DHS Fang Bo B2X Carbon. It does what it does and you can push very short, return service very short, chop, flick. However, it is slow and quite difficult to topspin with it. It would be suitable with a faster blade like a Clipper. I used it unboosted.

The rubber seemed a bit too soft. It took me about two weeks to get used to. It gives you good control, stability, and a predictable short game.
