Friendship/729 729-2 Sensor

Rubber description:

The Friendship/729 729-2 Sensor is a highly regarded Chinese table tennis rubber known for its unique blend of control, spin, and durability. While it doesn’t boast the extreme speeds of high-end tensor rubbers, it offers a satisfying performance for players who prioritize technique over raw power. The top sheet’s tackiness, rated at 3.6, provides an excellent grip on the ball, especially at the beginning of its life. However, players should note that the tackiness does diminish over time, transitioning to a more grippy surface that maintains consistent performance.

In terms of weight, the Friendship/729 729-2 Sensor falls into the lighter category, making it easier to handle during fast-paced games. Its sponge hardness is moderate at 6.6, allowing for a good balance of feel and feedback, though some players have found it to be on the firmer side compared to other Chinese rubbers. This hardness contributes to its durability rating of 7.6, ensuring that it can withstand extensive play without significant wear and tear.

The 729-2 Sensor is particularly praised for its outstanding control, which rates at 10, making it ideal for players who excel at placing shots and executing precise maneuvers. It is also versatile enough for various playing styles, from looping and pushing to blocking and chopping, making it an excellent choice for both aggressive and defensive players. Alternatives may include other Chinese rubbers like the DHS Hurricane series or the YASAKA Mark V for those seeking different characteristics or playstyles. Overall, the Friendship/729 729-2 Sensor stands out as an exceptional choice for players looking for a reliable and affordable rubber that can perform well in diverse situations.

Used the red one, with maximum thickness on the backhand.
The sponge is rated at 45 degrees, but it doesn’t feel that hard.
There is no catapult effect, the speed is medium, and the control is very good. However, I still didn’t like it, as it felt like it was lacking something… I suppose this rubber would only be suitable when used with fast glue or Chinese booster.

Very good rubber, but not an excellent choice for championship plays.

#3 — June 2011

Hard sponge (around 48 degrees), providing excellent control for short pushes, chops, and blocks. Topspins are feasible but require good technique. Hitting is effective but not excessively fast. Suitable as a backhand rubber to slow the game’s pace and disrupt opponents with short pushes. Notably performs well in service returns against high-level players (tested against a B4 class Belgian player rated approximately 2400 USATT). No catapult effect compared to German tensor rubbers.
