Yasaka Mark V is a revered table tennis rubber known for its exceptional blend of speed, spin, and control, making it a staple among players at all levels, from beginners to professionals. With a speed rating of 90 and a spin rating of 90, Mark V boasts a reliable performance that enhances various playing styles. Its moderate tackiness of 2.6 allows for controlled shots while still generating noticeable spin, allowing players to execute topspin and side-spin shots effectively.
In terms of weight, Mark V falls into the medium category, thanks to its balanced design that features a sponge hardness rated at 4.5. This combination alleviates excessive weight while offering a solid feel during play. Durability is another hallmark of the Mark V, with a durability rating of 8.7. Players have reported using the same rubber for months while maintaining performance levels, which contributes to its esteemed reputation as a long-lasting option in the competitive environment of table tennis.
For those seeking alternatives, while there are newer tensor rubbers and advanced options present in the market, many still favor Yasaka Mark V for its classic properties. It provides a level of feedback and consistency that modern tensors often struggle to match, making it an excellent choice for developing skills and refining techniques. As a rubber that can adapt to different blades and playing styles, the Mark V serves as both an entry point for newcomers and a reliable option for seasoned players aiming for precision and control.
The rubber was a direct competitor to Butterfly Sriver, but it is still good today and affordable for beginners to use and learn on a 40+ size ball.
I don’t find this rubber very spinny, and I may not have the best topspin, but I like a flat smash and it’s good for that. It also sounds good, too.
It’s a very nice rubber with a great mix of power, control, and spin. You have everything you need as an intermediate player.
