The Yasaka Mark V HPS Soft is a modern take on the classic Mark V rubber, designed to cater to the needs of offensive players seeking enhanced control and spin. Featuring a softer sponge hardness, this rubber strikes a balance between speed and touch, making it well-suited for spin-heavy strokes while allowing excellent maneuverability. Its mid-range tackiness provides players with the ability to impart significant spin on the ball, ideal for loops and aggressive shots, while still enabling controlled returns during more passive play scenarios.
In terms of weight, the Mark V HPS Soft is regarded as medium, which contributes to its overall versatility. Players will find it sufficiently lightweight to facilitate quick movements across the table while maintaining a solid feel during impact. Durability is another strong point for this rubber, with a durability rating of 8.7, indicating that it can withstand extensive play without losing its playing characteristics.
For those seeking alternatives, the Yasaka Mark V HPS Soft offers a compelling option over traditional tensors or advanced rubber like Butterfly’s Tenergy series. Fans of the classic Mark V will enjoy this upgraded version, which combines familiarity with modern advancements in rubber technology. However, it’s recommended primarily for advanced players due to its speed and responsiveness, making it less ideal for beginners who may struggle with its power. Overall, the Mark V HPS Soft provides an excellent blend of spin, control, and speed, positioning itself as a must-try for serious table tennis players.
Very good upgrade from Mark V.
Awesome spin.
The first thing I want to note is that the rubber does not have the indicated speed of 8.8 nor does it spin 9. This is above all a hybrid rubber, a transition between the new tensors and the old classic rubber. This is a rubber with more control. It is preferable to combine this rubber with quick and elastic blades, where it will bring a good combination with the speed and spin.
This sponge is a special development of Yasaka designed for water glue. If you cannot control the new tensors, but the old classic rubber comes to you slow and hard, this rubber is for you. This rubber has a superb passive game precisely because of the average spin it has. The attack is quite decent in the right stroke, with a medium-high rebound angle. This rubber is above all for lovers of the sport.
Review, 12.11.2013:
When I first used this rubber, my opponents remarked on the lack of spin in my strokes. The rubber lifted the ball so effectively that I didn’t initially notice it myself.
The control was excellent, but it is important to note that the other side of the racket should have a more spin-oriented rubber. Despite the low spin rating I’ve given, I do not recommend learning advanced techniques with this rubber. Instead, I suggest replacing it with an Xiom or Butterfly product.
Clarification, 16.10.2014:
Of course, there is some spin with this rubber. However, the difference between it and my previous Xiom Sigma Europa rubber was noticeable due to my playing style, which relied heavily on varying the spin. The opponents experienced a narrower range of spins, and the strokes did not create enough disruption.
I have maintained the spin rating at 7.5. Someone who consistently hits the ball hard may give a rating above 9 without contradicting this assessment.
