Yasaka Mark V XS
Rubber description:
This rubber functions as a traditional, non-tensor offensive sheet designed for players who prioritize direct feedback and consistent performance. It features a medium-hardness sponge paired with a soft topsheet that exhibits mild tackiness, providing a reliable feel for a wide variety of strokes. It is well-suited for a controlled offensive game, balancing the need for speed and spin with a high level of placement accuracy.
Performance Characteristics
- Spin and Speed: The rubber offers high spin potential, particularly effective for looping and driving. It delivers a direct speed profile, which appeals to players who prefer a linear response over the dynamic, often unpredictable nature of modern tensioned rubbers.
- Control and Dwell Time: While it demands a degree of practice to master, it offers excellent control for blocking, pushing, and short-game play. The dwell time is sufficient for technical strokes, allowing players to manipulate spin on serves and returns with confidence.
- Trajectory: The rubber generally produces a low to medium-low arc, which is advantageous for keeping attacking shots fast and difficult for the opponent to counter.
- Versatility: It is a capable all-around tool that excels in a looping-oriented game, transitioning smoothly from defensive pushes and chops to aggressive smashes and counter-drives. It maintains consistent quality across sheets and offers good durability with proper maintenance.

Good for controlled attack. This rubber makes all strokes easy. It has good speed for a non-tensor rubber. This is a good choice for those who prefer non-tensors.

This version of Mark V is slightly faster than the regular version, with the same excellent spin and almost the same level of control. The top sheet is of superb quality and consistent from sheet to sheet. This rubber is particularly suitable for players who prefer a more “direct” speed and spin and dislike the feel of tensors. While the Mark V XS is priced higher than the regular version, it boasts a longer lifespan if properly maintained and stored in a case.
The Mark V XS features a medium-low throw, making it suitable for a wide range of shots in table tennis. Loops are characterized by both spin and speed, while counters are quick and the short game remains highly controllable. Overall, the Mark V family continues to deliver exceptional performance for table tennis players.

I am reviewing a 1.8mm black rubber using it on my forehand side. I find this to be a fairly spinny rubber with loads of control. It is not too fast. The sponge feels medium or so in hardness with a nice soft topsheet with some mild tackiness. I find it a fantastic rubber for looping with a nice low fast arc and very easy to control. It pushes with real control although I don’t find it as easy to chop with. It seems to block well. It has enough dwell time for me but is reasonable at this thinner sponge level for flat hitting. I think it is a good all round rubber and a good alternative to some of the slightly softer chinese rubbers.
