Butterfly Amultart ZL Carbon
Blade description:
The Butterfly Amultart is a high-performance offensive blade featuring a 3+2 construction. It utilizes ZL Carbon (ZLC) layers and is characterized by the use of Hinoki wood for its outer veneers. This combination results in a blade known for its significant speed and power, while maintaining a level of feel that distinguishes it from purely synthetic or stiffer, less dampened alternatives.
Playing Characteristics
- Speed and Power: Designed for direct, aggressive offensive play, this blade is exceptionally fast. It is highly effective for smashing, flat hitting, and powerful drives.
- Feel and Dwell: The Hinoki outer layers provide a distinct, comfortable feel and help balance the stiffness of the ZL Carbon, offering enough dwell time to facilitate spin generation during looping.
- Control and Versatility: While it offers a large sweet spot and stability during blocking and short-game exchanges, the high speed necessitates advanced technical skills. It is generally considered less suitable for beginners but highly rewarding for advanced players who can manage its velocity.
- Performance Dynamics: The blade is noted for its ability to produce sharp, fast trajectories. Because of its stiff nature and low dwell time compared to all-wood blades, it excels at tactical, direct attacking styles rather than looping variations that rely heavily on dwell-dependent spin manipulation.
Construction and Handling
- Structure: This is a composite blade featuring a 3+2 construction. The integration of ZL Carbon within the wood layers contributes to its shock-absorbing properties, minimizing unwanted vibration.
- Weight Distribution: The blade is generally described as light to medium in weight, though individual units can vary. The Hinoki veneers contribute to a balanced feel, allowing for effective head acceleration during aggressive shots.
- Compatibility: Due to its high speed, users often match this blade with a variety of rubbers, ranging from soft rubbers to increase control to hard, high-tension rubbers to maximize its power. It is frequently noted that careful rubber selection is key to optimizing the balance between speed and dwell.

A few years ago, I got into the mindset of playing the safe game and controlling the ball more, so I went from my Primorac Carbon to Clipper Wood, which was fun for a long while. Then I moved to Xiom Feel zx2 because of the Hinoki layer to see how it affects the dwell time, touch, and control, which was good too. However, I needed to put more effort into my shots.
Recently, I played with Amultart and cannot lie; it felt so much better than any of the abovementioned blades. It is fast, quite hard, but very forgiving. Blocking is very easy, smashing is very easy, dwell time is less than Clipper Wood or Feel zx2, but not bad in any way. I felt even my out of position loops with bad posture would land easier than the other blades.

I like the speed, power, and control of this blade. It works well with Chinese rubber.
Update: December 2023
I am using Donic Bluestar A1 in both the forehand (FH) and backhand (BH), and it is perfect!
