Butterfly Keyshot
Blade description:
The Butterfly Keyshot is a composite blade featuring a 3+2 construction. It is designed for versatile, spin-oriented players who prioritize technical variety and ball placement over raw, uncontrolled speed. Its performance characteristics allow for a high degree of control, making it effective for defensive maneuvers like chopping as well as aggressive, spin-heavy loop drives.
Playing Characteristics
- Performance: The blade offers a balanced feel, described as neither overly soft nor excessively hard, providing a nuanced tactile response during rallies. It features multiple “gears,” allowing the user to transition effectively between defensive pushing or chopping and offensive hitting or looping.
- Control: Known for its technical reliability, the blade excels at absorbing and redirecting aggressive shots. Its composition allows players to maintain consistency during prolonged exchanges, favoring a tactical style of play.
- Physical Build: The handle is characterized by a slightly smaller but wider profile compared to more modern Butterfly models, providing a distinct grip for many users. While generally well-regarded, some long-term users have noted that the handle scales may require maintenance or re-gluing over extended periods of use.

I have this blade, but I’ve never used it. I remember buying it when it had just come out. I got the straight handle with Tackifire FX rubber. I kept it in a climate controlled safe for some reason I can’t fathom. The rubber is still like new! I wish there were clubs around where I live like there used to be in Detroit, MI.
