Finally, I got my hands on a used one of these and wow! It’s a dream for short pips! Drives and blocks are nice and crisp. Balsa provides a lot of power, especially with the traditional backhand punch. Hinoki outer plies give good control on softer shots and passive blocks.

My only complaint is the size… compared to a square Jpen, the sweet spot is in a totally different place (much closer to the fingers) and I have less reach. Overall, it’s a lot of fun to play with.

Totally agree with previous comments, it’s not to be used with inverted rubbers. If you want to play penhold with inverted rubber go to Cypress, Nittaku A, or anything with a squared shape. Or to Chinese penhold blades. This one is only for short pips hitters. Koreans made it famous and all of them were SP hitters: Hyun Jung Hwa, Kim Ki Taek, and Kim Wan.

Not good with inverted rubber, this blade is meant to be played with short pips.
