After trying a dozen or so J-pens from different manufacturers, this is the one I have settled on.
The Yagyu III is unique among J-pens for two reasons:
(1) it has very low dwell time thanks to the stiff feeling and 3-ply construction, which makes it perfect for flat-hitting and blocking;
(2) it has the so-called “round” or “R” profile with a shorter handle and wider racket face (also optimal for blocking and close-to-the-table play).
So if you’re looking for a hard multi-ply blade for hitting, but you still want the touch and control of hinoki, this is the blade for you.
I currently use it with Nittaku Beautry MAX and it’s great for flat-hitting the 40+ ball…
Purchased this blade due to the reputation of Yasaka. The quality is as expected, and it provides a consistent feel and a powerful punch when flat hitting. It pairs well with suitable rubber, allowing for effective driving and looping.
However, I have a significant issue with the short handle. I did not anticipate it would be a problem, but it affects my gameplay. The heavy head requires me to adjust my entire technique to compensate, which is a major inconvenience during each use.
This blade excels in both speed and maneuverability. It is particularly suited for mid-distance play and is exceptionally effective for players who employ the backhand push. Its square-like structure and cork handle provide enhanced ease during gameplay.
For players seeking a balance of control and speed, this blade stands out as a prime choice.
