Yasaka Goiabao 5
Blade description:
The Yasaka Goiabao 5 is an all-wood, 5-ply offensive blade known for its balance of speed and control. Designed with hard outer veneers, it offers a crisp, clear feel upon contact and a performance profile that many players compare favorably to higher-priced professional blades. It typically performs well for intermediate to advanced players who favor an aggressive style, whether playing close to the table or from mid-distance.
Performance Characteristics
- Speed and Stiffness: While marketed by the manufacturer as OFF+, users generally describe its actual speed as a solid OFF or OFF-. The blade is relatively stiff and fast, providing a linear and precise trajectory during flat hits and drives.
- Feel and Dwell Time: Despite its hardness, the blade maintains a notable dwell time, which facilitates effective looping and topspin generation. It offers a balance of flex for spin-oriented shots and rigidity for power, allowing players to dictate the pace of a rally.
- Trajectory: It is characterized by a low throw angle, making it well-suited for counter-attacking and blocking. The lower arc requires players to close the racket angle when playing near the table to maintain accuracy.
- Control: Many users report that the blade provides excellent control, particularly in the short game, though it can be slightly bouncy, requiring a period of adjustment for delicate touch shots.
Build and Compatibility
- Construction: This is an all-wood, 5-ply blade with a thickness of approximately 6mm. Its construction features a thick middle veneer, which contributes to its power delivery.
- Rubber Pairing: The blade is versatile, performing well with a variety of setups. It is highly regarded for use with Chinese tacky rubbers (like the DHS Hurricane series) on the forehand, which complement the hard surface and low throw. It also pairs effectively with modern soft-to-medium tension rubbers for players seeking a more elastic feel and improved loop performance.
- Balance: Depending on the weight of the rubbers used, the setup can lean toward head-heavy; however, the blade itself is generally considered well-balanced. Handle designs, including flared and straight options, are available, though some users have noted the handles may be hollow.

It offers good control and isn’t slow for a wooden blade.

I wish I had picked an anatomical or flared handle.

It’s a nice wood, probably better suited to counter-oriented players.
I tried it after using the Innerforce ALC.S, and somehow I couldn’t quite get the feel of this wood. That being said, this wood does generate decent pace, so I imagine anyone who likes finishing points quickly might like it.
