Yasaka Extra
Blade description:
The Yasaka Extra is a 5-ply all-wood blade manufactured in Sweden. Primarily categorized within the ALL to OFF- speed spectrum, it is known for prioritizing tactile feedback and controlled performance. The blade utilizes an Aniegre outer ply, which provides a hardness comparable to Koto, contributing to a specific feel during ball contact.
Playing Characteristics
- Feel and Feedback: The blade is generally noted for its high level of control. Users report a soft to moderate feel, which excels in spin generation and technical looping. While some describe it as flexible and spin-oriented, individual samples may vary in stiffness and weight, with some users reporting stiffer, heavier versions that offer a more direct, glass-like response.
- Performance Dynamics: When paired with mid-soft to hard tensor rubbers, the blade is capable of producing significant speed and high-arc loops. It rewards players who utilize proper brushing mechanics to maximize dwell time and spin.
- Versatility: This blade is frequently recommended for developing players or aggressive all-rounders who prefer controlled rallies over raw power. It is effective for spin-focused play and blocking, though its performance can be highly dependent on the choice of rubber and the specific weight of the blade.
Maintenance and Build
- Construction: This is an all-wood, 5-ply construction.
- Care: The Aniegre top layer is known to be relatively fragile. Applying a light protective coating is recommended to prevent splintering or damage during rubber removal. Players should note that weight consistency can vary across different production runs.

This is a very good, full 5-ply wood blade. It’s made in Sweden and costs only around €35.
Don’t underrate this blade. It truly is a control monster for all-around techniques. However, if combined with mid-soft rubbers like the Yasaka Rakza 7, Xiom Vega X, or Rakza 7 Soft, it develops much more power in spin and speed.

Very good loop blade, good control, fast with fast rubber.

This blade is the semi-old Extra, which came after the Gatien Extra and before the Sweden Extra. The differences between these models are unknown. It’s a somewhat heavy blade, weighing 90 grams, and not as slow as some people think. The outer ply is Aniegre, which has a hardness similar to Koto. The top layer is fragile, so the blade requires coating. It’s an excellent choice for young players and can be used for many years.
