Butterfly Addoy
Rubber description:
This inverted rubber is widely regarded as a foundational tool specifically designed for learning basic table tennis strokes. It features a low throw angle and generates minimal spin, making it a predictable choice for those mastering their technique for the first time.
Playing Characteristics
- Rubber Type: Inverted
- Performance: The rubber is characterized by its limited spin capacity and straightforward response, which helps players focus on developing consistent stroke mechanics.
- Dwell Time and Control: It offers a stable, non-demanding feel that assists beginners in transitioning into the sport.
- Suitability: Due to its linear performance, it is frequently utilized in institutional settings such as schools and recreational facilities. Once a player masters the fundamentals and develops advanced techniques, the performance limitations of this rubber typically necessitate an upgrade to more reactive equipment.

This was my first rubber, which I used over 50 years ago. It’s a great learning rubber and is well-suited for institutional use, such as in prisons, nursing homes, or schools. However, it is not as good as the old BTY D-13.
Addoy is a better name than Dignics, which sounds like a rubber you would use for playing at a picnic. I truly believe that the person at Butterfly who thinks up these names is under the influence of something. I would recommend that their next rubber be called “Pigbutts”…it has a real ring to it.

Good for beginners. It has an extremely low throw angle and generates very little spin. It is okay for learning strokes. Once you develop good technique, you may want to move away from it.

This rubber is not the best option available, but it is a great choice for beginners who are just starting to learn the basics of table tennis.
