Butterfly Aibiss
Rubber description:
This rubber is a hybrid that functions similarly to traditional, unboosted Chinese rubbers, characterized by a very hard sponge and a slightly tacky topsheet. Its playing profile prioritizes control and spin over raw speed, requiring significant physical effort and advanced technique to generate power. Due to its heavy weight and low-speed nature, it is best suited for fast, stiff blades to compensate for its inherent lack of elasticity.
Key Playing Characteristics
- Spin and Control: The surface provides high spin potential, particularly on serves and short-game exchanges. It is notably less sensitive to incoming spin, which assists in executing counter-topspin and counter-looping shots.
- Trajectory and Feel: It exhibits a low throw angle, necessitating an upward stroke to clear the net consistently. The feel is described as “dead” or solid, providing high levels of control but requiring a full, aggressive swing to engage the sponge.
- Durability: The rubber is noted to have a limited lifespan, experiencing a significant decline in performance quality as it ages.
Performance Notes
- Usage: It acts as a effective transition rubber for players moving from classic European-style rubbers toward harder, more demanding Chinese-style setups.
- Recommendations: Due to its weight and physical demands, it is not recommended for players looking for a dynamic or easy-to-use rubber. It rewards technically proficient players who prioritize placement and tactical spin variation over pure speed.

This rubber provides an opportunity to try a hybrid from Butterfly without investing in Dignics 09C. While its characteristics fall slightly short of the aforementioned overlay, it offers a similar feel, which is one of its key advantages.
However, a significant drawback of this rubber is its limited lifespan. While Dignics 09C transitions to 05 over time, this overlay deteriorates to a point where it becomes disposable.

This rubber offers a unique sensation due to its extremely hard sponge. To achieve high speed, you will need to apply significant force to your strokes. It evokes memories of the earlier PF-4 version. Its playstyle closely resembles that of an unboosted Chinese rubber. The reason for BTY’s production of this rubber, which is characterized by its heaviness, hardness, and decent but not exceptional control, remains unclear.
The rubber excels in short games thanks to its excellent spin capabilities. However, it lacks speed unless you exert a considerable amount of effort. When used on a Timo Boll Spirit blade, it contributes to a heavier weight and a somewhat unresponsive feeling for backhand shots. This rubber may not suit everyone’s preferences, but it exhibits high quality and may appeal to certain players due to its specific characteristics.
Looping with this rubber demands a proficient technique to optimize its performance. It effectively counters serves with its impressive spin capabilities. Despite its unconventional nature, this rubber stands out as a peculiar entry within the Butterfly lineup.
