Butterfly Catapult

Rubber description:

This tensor rubber is defined by its soft sponge and prominent catapult effect. Engineered to provide significant power and speed, it is particularly effective for aggressive counter-drives, smashes, and looping. The soft structure allows the ball to sink deeply into the sponge, creating a distinct trampoline feel that enhances dwell time and provides substantial spin potential.

Playing Characteristics

  • Feel and Control: The soft sponge offers a sensitive, tactile feel that facilitates precise ball placement, making it a reliable option for both backhand control and forehand power.
  • Speed and Power: Designed for high-tension performance, it delivers explosive speed, allowing players to execute decisive smashes and rapid-fire counter-attacks with ease.
  • Spin and Versatility: While it excels at looping and opening play against backspin, it remains balanced enough for effective service delivery.

Considerations

  • Performance: It provides a satisfying sound during contact even without the use of speed glue.
  • Maintenance: Due to the soft nature of the topsheet and sponge, the rubber may show a decrease in grip over extended use, and its durability is a notable factor relative to its price point.

My favorite high tension rubber from Butterfly is a standout choice for table tennis enthusiasts. With a softness rating of 32 degrees, it offers a slightly spongy feel that many players appreciate.

One of its most impressive features is the ability to generate excellent spin. The soft sponge allows the ball to sink in, resulting in a more controlled and dynamic spin. However, the soft sponge can also create a slight “trampoline effect,” which may not be suitable for everyone.

Overall, this rubber is well-suited for all-around power play, making it a versatile option for a variety of playing styles.

After some time searching and trying out different rubbers, I finally found the perfect one for my backhand.

This rubber provides a great deal of control and a wonderful feel. You can definitely experience the catapult effect, although not nearly as pronounced as when using glue. Additionally, the sound it produces is quite pleasant, even without adhesive.

It gives me the control I need for my backhand while also delivering adequate speed.

Moreover, it is an excellent choice for opening up against backspin.

The only downside is its durability; it tends to lose its grip after a while, and it is not particularly inexpensive.
