Butterfly Pan Asia

Rubber description:

This rubber is categorized as a standard pimples-in rubber designed primarily for beginners and players returning to the sport. It is characterized by its high level of control, allowing users to develop foundational strokes and gain consistency in their gameplay. Because it generates lower levels of spin, it is notably less sensitive to incoming spin from opponents, which facilitates easier service returns and countering of topspin shots.

Playing Characteristics

  • Speed: Low; the rubber requires the player to generate their own power and velocity through proper technique.
  • Spin: Moderate; while capable of producing enough spin to execute fundamental shots, it is not optimized for heavy-spin-oriented games.
  • Control and Dwell: Exceptional control, making it well-suited for close-to-the-table defensive play and controlled amateur rallies.
  • Trajectory: Features a notably high throw angle, which can influence how the ball leaves the racket surface during play.

Suitability and Durability

This rubber is best suited for beginners who prioritize stability and accuracy over raw offensive power. While it serves as a helpful tool for learning, user reports frequently highlight durability concerns, noting a relatively short lifespan and a tendency for the sponge to develop air bubbles or degrade after limited use. It is recommended for those seeking a predictable, low-maintenance rubber to refine their basic technical skills.

Spin:
Very slow. Provides moderate spin, but this spin can be easily countered by opponents.

Control:
Control is inconsistent, primarily due to the rubber’s extremely high throw angle. This makes it difficult to control the ball’s trajectory.

Durability:
The rubber deteriorates quickly, with a lifespan of only 2 months of regular use.

Recommendation:
Avoid purchasing this rubber due to its poor performance and short lifespan.

After being away from table tennis for many years, I picked up a decent premade paddle (Timo Boll 3000) that came with Pan Asia rubber on both sides.

This rubber is loaded with control! It’s got just enough spin to enable you to get all your strokes right. If you’re looking for speed, you won’t find it here. However, it will force you to generate speed and power with proper technique.

Overall, a great option for beginners or someone returning to the game.

After 7 years of using GKI Kung Fuu, which had lots of spin and decent control but slow speed, I decided to go for something that had less spin but more control and speed. I must say this rubber is really good for beginners whose game is not spin-based; rather, they depend on fast-paced shots.

Since the spin of this rubber is less, this is a plus point since it is not sensitive to incoming spin, and you can flick the heavy spin serves easily as well as counter loop the topspin easily. Overall, I just want to say that if you are a beginner player looking for control, this is very good rubber. However, if you love spin, this rubber is not for you since you really have to struggle to spin the ball.
