DHS Skyline 2

This rubber is very tacky (in the non-neo version) and has outstanding surface friction, and the result is tremendous spin. It takes 4-6 hours to break in, and once it does you have a unique weapon in your hands - spinny, consistent, great gears, great short game. However, it’s not for everyone as it requires tremendous strength to generate the pace that is standard in the modern game, and, as a result, tremendous all-body endurance to sustain this level of effort. Given that nobody talks about this here or on the forums, I’ll note that Skyline II also chops brilliantly, even in 2.1mm. (You can watch old videos of Ma Lin butchering some of the dirtiest chops around on YouTube, and pretty much model his style of play in general if you embrace the Skyline monster.) On that note, TT11 - please start stocking the 1.8mm DHS non-neo Skylines and Hurricanes again. There’s a real market for thinner sponges these days. If I could get this in 1.8mm, I would never use another rubber. As it stands, I’ve ordered a slower defensive blade than my Defplay to see if I can get the control I desire to use this rubber for modern defense in 2.1mm.

I liked the rubber a lot on the forehand; it allowed you to play powerful and spinny shots. The problem was that when you didn’t play actively, it gave a very slow block which gave the opponent too much time to attack. So I would recommend it on a naturally active forehand, but not on the backhand since one is unlikely to be naturally active on the backhand all the time. It is probably the first hard rubber I have categorically been unable to use on both forehand and backhand with confidence.

We can use this rubber with Tibhar Carbon Shot. Very effective. If you’re playing for fun, and local tournaments, for state and international tournament levels, we have to use a carbon acrylic blade for it to be effective.

This is my favorite rubber of all time. Before I found this rubber, I was using Hurricane 3. All of the characteristics of Hurricane 3 that I like, this rubber has even more. If you like Hurricane 3, I highly suggest trying this rubber – especially if you are a penholder.

I currently use Skyline 2 on both sides when I play penhold, and I use it on my backhand (my stronger side) when I play handshake grip.

I do not boost this rubber, as I like to play with it unboosted. I am quite strong so it does not bother me to have to put in extra effort to get a fast ball. Make no mistake, when you hit the ball hard with good technique, it goes FAST. However, if you do not hit with power and correct technique, the ball will go very slow. This can be beneficial for control in the short game. It is fast when you hit fast, but slow when you hit slow.

One of the main features of this rubber is that you need to use good Chinese technique – power comes from your legs, and you need to lightly brush the ball (rather than hit through it). In some ways this is a pro, since it reinforces good technique and makes you learn good technique quickly – when you hit the ball correctly, you will feel it and it feels very good. However, this is also a con, since you need to make a good quality effort with every single hit. You cannot be lazy, even for a single stroke.

The spin on big loops far from the table is unparalleled. The loop-kill (Ma Lin’s signature shot) is incredible – I see why Ma Lin used this rubber. Control in the short game is amazing. The throw angle is very low (even lower than Hurricane 3).

The main thing I like about this rubber is the feeling – the ball stays on the rubber for a long time, and you can really “pick up” the ball and “throw” it with Skyline 2. In the short game, you can “pick up” the ball and “drop” it where you want.

There is one downside of Skyline 2, which is that you can’t flat hit the ball. Every stroke you make must have spin on it, it’s the only way to get a consistent shot. If you try to flat hit, the ball will fly away randomly – I think it is due to the rubber being extremely sticky.

If you do not boost this rubber and make sure to clean it, it will stay sticky and last for many months.

Good rubber.

Second sheet I’ve gotten.
Quality is superb.
This might be my last sheet of this rubber on my current blade (Hurricane Hao I), as it is not as fast of a rubber as one might need on an all-wood blade.
Spin is really good and once you incorporate your lower body into your forehand shots (Chinese style), it can really shine. Further from the table on awkward shots, it can get hard to get it to the opponent’s side.

Хорошие контрольные накладки на ведущую руку.

Perfect for control and spin.

Kui veidi harjutada, siis täiesti mängitav.

Well, in my humble opinion, you need to use some booster.

The European version cannot choose the hardness and is very difficult. I guess using more glue can make it better. The hard one feels like hitting sand grains, luckily the rubber surface adhesion is quite good. When smashing with a 2.2mm rubber, it can barely penetrate, thin friction cannot be controlled at all.

This rubber is not linear and feels kind of unique. It might need some real effort to get used to. It also works better when boosted.

Very pleased to buy this from tabletennis11.com.

Que demander de mieux à ce prix ?
Collé sur un Stiga off, c’est fabuleux en terme de contrôle, de spin et de sensation. N’hésitez pas.

Good price, very good product.

If you’re a fan of Chinese products, this rubber is the best for the backhand. The spin is incredible. Of course, treated with Falco Long Booster.

#21January 2014

This rubber is excellent for spin but not too fast as the description. It is perfect for the backhand and very good for service blocking and hitting. It’s a good all-round rubber.

Good.
