Donic Piranja CD

Rubber description:

Based on the name “Piranja CD,” and common naming conventions in table tennis, we can infer the following about this rubber, even without knowing the brand:

The “CD” suffix likely stands for “Control Drive” or something similar, suggesting an inverted rubber designed for players who prioritize control and consistent spin generation over outright speed. It’s probably an inverted rubber with a slightly tacky topsheet that allows for good grip on the ball, enabling reliable spin on serves, pushes, and loops. We can expect a medium-high throw angle, making it easier to clear the net and land shots consistently. The playing characteristics would lean towards balanced speed, good spin, and excellent control. It wouldn’t be the fastest rubber on the market, but it would offer a predictable and forgiving response, making it suitable for developing players and those who value consistency in their game.

This rubber is likely best suited for all-around players and those who prefer a controlled offensive game. Players who focus on consistent looping, pushing, and blocking will find this rubber beneficial. It would be a good choice for players transitioning from beginner rubbers or those looking for more control without sacrificing the ability to generate spin. The sponge hardness is likely in the medium range (around 42-45 degrees on the European scale), providing a good balance between feeling the ball and having enough power for offensive shots. While specific technologies are unknown without further information, it’s possible the rubber incorporates a slightly softer sponge for enhanced dwell time and control, or a topsheet designed for improved spin sensitivity.

This Long Pips has excellent control. I have it in the 1.0 - 1.3 mm sponge thickness on my Nittaku Goriki Super Cut blade. It blocks very well and hitting is very good. This is really the all-round long pips that does everything very well, but I would have liked a little bit more disturbing effect on the chops. Maybe it’s better for this purpose on the ox and 0.3-0.6 mm sponge, but I have no complaints. Spin reversal is also excellent. Donic products are very good.

I play with 0.5 sponge on offensive blades for my forehand and it hits well with plenty of control. Good passive control, not the highest disruption but makes up for it with balance when returning hard hits. I play close to the table.
