Rubber description:

Technical Characteristics

The Donic Acuda Blue P2 is a tensor rubber featuring a medium-soft, porous blue sponge paired with a soft, thin topsheet. It is characterized by its lightweight composition and a design that prioritizes ball dwell time to facilitate high-spin generation. While it possesses a built-in speed glue effect, the catapult is generally manageable, providing a reliable and linear feel during controlled shots, though some players may experience non-linear behavior when engaging the sponge at maximum power.

Playing Performance

  • Spin and Grip: The rubber is highly regarded for its ability to produce significant rotational energy, particularly on serves, opening loops, and spin-oriented attacking shots. It offers a solid grip, allowing for effective spin manipulation in the short game and on flick returns.
  • Speed and Power: While not categorized as an ultra-high-speed rubber, it provides sufficient pace for offensive play. It performs best at close-to-table and mid-distance ranges. The rubber is noted for its “click” sound upon ball contact, which enhances feedback.
  • Throw Angle and Control: It features a medium to low-medium throw angle. This trajectory assists in keeping drives and blocks flat and controlled. The rubber is recognized for its ease of use in blocking, offering both passive and active blocking stability, and remains relatively neutral to incoming opponent spin compared to more sensitive alternatives.
  • Versatility: The P2 is widely used by intermediate and advanced amateur players for both forehand and backhand setups. It is highly valued for its all-round offensive capabilities, though it may require precise stroke adjustment to avoid overshooting the table during high-intensity power loops or smashes.

I got back to table tennis after approximately 17 years of hiatus. Prior to that, I was playing at a professional level.

I must admit that it was quite a shock that new/different balls are in play, and with that, all the technology changed so that fresh gluing is basically redundant. My dad is still a coach, so he helped me out and put together a blade that I currently play with, but it is becoming a bit slow already. It’s an OSP Expert with Donic Acuda Blue P2.

Firstly, I have to admit that when I saw what I got, I was a bit skeptical. I was always a Butterfly player, but I was still anxious to try what I got, and I was fairly surprised. My game was always about rotation, spin, and playing with the ball, and this rubber did allow me that. I was able to produce insane amounts of rotation—serve, wrist motions only, lots of rotation, great control. Forehand spin is amazing. When I got secure with the stroke, I was able to place the ball anywhere on the table with insane amounts of spin.

On backhand, the rubber offered a lot of control, a nice feeling, and was able to block nicely. The rubber is also quite nice for power strokes, but the launch angle is more suitable for spin play. Still, it doesn’t bite if you smack the ball a few times.

What Donic says about their own rubber is so true: It is a feel-good, do-all topspin rubber. I use it on my backhand, and it allows me to do everything. It is not too heavy (43-44g, 2.0mm), gives good spin (not great spin), and my backhand topspins fall down on the table if I brush the ball. Flat hits are also very good because of the medium or maybe medium-low throw angle. Certainly, pros won’t be satisfied with it, but for an average Joe like me, this is one of the best there is for backhand play.
