Yasaka Pryde 40
Rubber description:
This rubber is classified as a hybrid surface, combining a tacky topsheet with a dynamic sponge. It is designed primarily for offensive play, offering enough versatility to transition between controlled short-game touches and powerful mid-distance attacks. Players can expect a distinct “click” sound during high-impact shots, signaling the engagement of the sponge.
Performance Characteristics
- Speed and Dwell: The rubber features a noticeable “bouncy” quality, which aids in generating rapid ball speed, particularly during backhand loops and slams. While this liveliness rewards aggressive, precise strokes, it requires an adjustment period to manage the trampoline effect during slower shots.
- Spin and Control: The tacky surface provides high spin potential, making it an effective tool for serves and spin-oriented looping. It allows for a multi-gear performance, maintaining enough control for service returns and placement-focused play while still being capable of generating significant velocity when fully engaged.
- Durability and Feel: The rubber provides high feedback and a balanced feel, particularly when paired with all-round to offensive blades. However, performance consistency is noted to decrease significantly as the rubber ages, with a functional lifespan that may feel shorter than other professional-grade rubbers.

This rubber was not good. Players sponsored by Yasaka did not like it. It does not shine in any area.

Backhand
I use Red (2.0mm sponge) on a Hurricane King 655 and Galaxy W6 for my backhand. It performs exceptionally well on the W6, allowing for consistent sideline shots (at my 1400 USATT rating). This has significantly boosted my confidence.
The rubber is versatile, enabling me to switch sides and execute spinny serves. Many opponents struggle to return these serves, often sending them into the net due to the excessive spin.
Looping with this rubber is a delight on both the W6 and the 655. I prefer the W6 for improved shot placement, while the 655 offers greater speed. The rubber provides a range of speeds, including:
- Low: Effortless serve returns
- Medium-low: Effective for looping
- Fast: Powerful mid-distance slams
Note: I exclusively purchase this rubber in Red (2.0mm sponge). It would be helpful if reviewers consistently mention the color of the rubber they are using.

I love the tacky surface of this rubber. It provides a lot of feel and speed, making it suitable for both close to the table and mid distance attacks. The rubber is also good for serving.
