Blade description:

The Butterfly Gergely Carbon is a renowned table tennis blade that has garnered a reputation as a classic choice among aggressive players. This blade features a sophisticated composition, combining three outer plies of cypress wood with a central balsa layer, reinforced by two plies of carbon. This unique combination ensures not only exceptional speed but also a solid feel for the ball, making it perfect for offensive play. Measuring 7.0mm in thickness and weighing approximately 93g, the Gergely Carbon offers a somewhat heavier feel, which can provide more stability during rapid exchanges.

With a speed rating of 9.9 and a stiffness rating of 8.7, the Gergely Carbon is classified as a very fast and rigid blade, suitable for players who favor aggressive styles with powerful topspins and smashes. While its hardness is rated at 7.8, providing solid feedback, it may challenge players who rely on finesse and control in their short game. The blade’s rigidity and speed often require an adaptation period, especially for those transitioning from softer, more flexible blades. However, many players appreciate the blade’s ability to generate impressive spin and power when paired with appropriate rubbers.

For players seeking alternatives, the Gergely Carbon can be compared to other high-speed blades like the Butterfly Primorac Carbon or Timo Boll series. While they each offer unique characteristics, the Gergely is often favored for its balance of speed and control, making it a preferred choice for experienced players looking to enhance their offensive game.

Legendary table tennis blade. Stiff and hard, but it has very good sensitivity. Suitable for attacking play in the near zone.

Non-standard reduced blade size with a non-classical transition to the handle.

Got one old Gergely Blade in good condition. It has no Butterfly tag on the handle and no serial number. It’s a very small size blade (150x146). It weighs 91g and is thinner than Primorac Carbon. It plays well with soft to medium rubbers and plays nicely on the backhand. It’s easy to spin the ball and hit hard. I put a harder rubber on the forehand, and it was easy to play a short game but more difficult to attack and spin underspin balls. I think it would be better with a softer rubber.

It’s a nice blade, slower than Primorac Carbon but with more control and more catapult effect. It’s very hard to control this blade.
