One of many variations on Butterfly’s five-ply kiri-core Jpen formula that was popular in the 80s and 90s. Hinoki outer plies are relatively thick (about 1.2 mm), so there is still some feeling of soft hitting and good touch.

That said, this is definitely a blade for hitters: the dwell time is short, and it loses some power away from the table. It makes sense that it is only offered in the “R” shape for close-table play.

For me, it pairs very well with offensive short pips like Spectol Blue.
