Blade description:

The Matsushita Pro Special is a composite blade designed for modern defensive play. It utilizes a 5+2 construction, incorporating carbon layers that expand the sweet spot and provide a reliable, consistent response during active play. The blade is engineered to balance defensive capabilities with the power necessary for offensive transitions, such as loops, punches, and pip-based attacks.

Playing Characteristics

  • Feel and Control: The blade is characterized by high control, particularly when used for chopping with long pips. It features a specific construction that offers speed absorption, allowing for stable defensive strokes and easy execution of chop-blocks.
  • Offensive Performance: Despite its defensive focus, the carbon layers provide sufficient speed to initiate attacks on the forehand side. It performs most reliably when paired with harder-sponged inverted rubbers, as soft rubbers can result in a mushy feel.
  • Weight Distribution: The blade features a distinct head-heavy balance, which significantly influences its swing characteristics and overall feel.

Recommended Setup

To maximize the blade’s potential, it is best suited for a modern defensive style that integrates frequent attacking maneuvers. While effective for chopping, players should select rubbers with increased hardness to maintain proper feedback and responsiveness from the blade’s composite core.

This is a very good modern defender blade.

Remember that this blade has a lot of its weight on its head (even without rubbers on it). Someone, like me, doesn’t like it.

Sorry for my poor English. I’m from the ASEAN region.

I use the Matsushita Pro Special blade with Long Pips Meteorite 0.5 and Hurricane III rubber. I feel like I can control my backhand very well, and chop-blocking is easy for a newcomer like me.

Forehand attacks with the Hurricane rubber are reliable.

I have tried many defensive blades in the past, but the Matsushita impressed me the most from the first time I tried it.
