The Butterfly Sardius is a legendary table tennis blade renowned for its incredible speed and high-performance characteristics that cater primarily to aggressive, offensive players. With a composition of 5 plies that include three layers of wood and two layers of carbon, it offers remarkable stiffness and hardness, making it a favored choice for hard hitters. Weighing approximately 90 grams, the Sardius sits comfortably in the medium weight category, allowing for both powerful strokes and a degree of maneuverability.
The blade’s stiffness, rated at 8.5, coupled with its hardness of 8.8, ensures that players can generate explosive high-speed shots while maintaining a solid feel during play. However, its flexibility is limited, which may require players to pair it with softer rubbers to enhance control and spin. Many users recommend using soft sponges such as the Tenergy series or softer variants to balance the immense speed and control.
While the Sardius excels in fast-paced, close-to-the-table play, it demands a high skill level, as it may not provide adequate feedback for beginners or those looking to develop their technique with looping and spins. Players transitioning from lighter, more forgiving blades may find the Sardius challenging to master. For those seeking alternatives, blades like the Butterfly Timo Boll ALC or the Stiga Infinity VPS offer a more forgiving touch and better control without sacrificing significant speed. Ultimately, the Emilia Sardius remains an iconic weapon for experienced players keen on dominating through power and aggressive play.
What a speedy classic blade! I feel extra confident when using it.
This blade is exceptionally fast, allowing for quick and dynamic gameplay.
It is very fast and very hard. It is better to use the soft rubber to reduce speed and increase spin. But the blade is comfortable for me. When I used it, I tried rubber which is Yinhe Moon Soft for Backhand and Forehand. It feels good to me.
This blade is perfect for playing near the table and for making long loops from distant positions. I use Tenergy 05 FX and Tenergy 80 with this blade, which is a perfect setup for me.
