DHS Hurricane H-WL
Blade description:
This is an all-wood, 5-ply offensive blade known for its fast, linear performance and high potential for aggressive, attacking playstyles. Designed for players with developed technique, it excels in mid-distance rallies, offering a direct trajectory that allows for high-speed top-spins and deadly smashes. Because of its stiff and hard nature, it is less suited for beginners, as it demands active engagement and precise stroke mechanics to fully unlock its spin potential and control characteristics.
Key Playing Characteristics
- Performance: The blade provides a stable, low-catapult feel, which results in a straight ball flight and makes it highly predictable for offensive shot-making. It is particularly effective for power looping, counter-looping, and third-ball attacks.
- Feel and Feedback: As an all-wood construction, it offers excellent vibration feedback, allowing players to feel the ball clearly during complex exchanges and blocks. While it requires an adjustment period for close-to-the-table play, experienced users can develop a strong power-blocking game.
- Physical Properties: It features a slim profile that allows for rapid swing speeds. Users should note that the handle can be relatively heavy, contributing to a solid, substantial feel in the hand that supports the weight required for consistent, all-out offensive play.
- Equipment Compatibility: The blade pairs effectively with a variety of rubbers, ranging from medium-to-hard Chinese tacky rubbers—often requiring boosters to maximize performance—to high-tension tensor rubbers for a modern offensive feel. It is frequently cited as a high-value alternative to other classic offensive wood blades.

This all-wood, 5-ply blade offers exceptional speed, outstanding control, and a remarkable feel. To generate spin, it’s crucial to rely on your arm or wrist movement; otherwise, the blade will counter-drive your stroke. Nevertheless, with proper technique, you can achieve incredible spin. Looping from the mid-table is effortless and spin-laden. The blade’s remarkable control and feel facilitate seamless transitions between any shot.
Initially, the blade may feel somewhat slow, but with increased familiarity, it empowers you to generate speed and spin at will. I’ve equipped the forehand with H3neo and the backhand with 729 Battle 2—an uncommon combination. However, the tacky properties of the 729 allow me to produce substantial spin on my backhand strokes. The blade’s medium-high arc minimizes the need for significant adjustments against different opponents.
The handle is praiseworthy but slightly weighty for my preference, although it remains manageable. Blocking topspins or receiving short, spinny serves comes naturally. Touch play is satisfactory. After using this blade for four months, I’ve failed to discover any substantial drawbacks. On the contrary, I’ve become an ardent admirer. It’s a genuine classic among offensive all-wood blades, but it’s not recommended for defensive players.

One of the classic pure offensive woods, this blade is thin, which is very good for swinging fast. It excels in all-out offense. If you’ve learned to use this blade well, you can play an excellent third ball attack or even hard topspin to topspin rally, especially on mid-distance.
Paired with Hurricane III Provincial, Rasant Power Grip, or Rhyzm in FH while Acuda S2 on BH-wow! it’s a nice combination. Smashing and counterlooping are excellent and often deadly to your opponent.
