DHS Power-G PG5X

Composite/carbon
89 grams1384 Hz$54

Blade description:

This composite blade features a 3+2 construction, utilizing an inner-layer ALC arrangement with Limba outer plies. It is designed with a blade thickness of 5.9 mm and typically weighs between 87 and 92 grams. The handle is notably slim and ergonomic, contributing to an overall build that balances a solid feel with sufficient flexibility during full-power swings.

Performance Characteristics

  • Feel and Dwell: The blade is characterized by a “woody” feel, offering significant dwell time that facilitates spin-oriented play and high-quality service returns. It is softer and more flexible than many traditional outer-carbon blades, allowing the player to engage the core on aggressive strokes.
  • Speed and Power: While it offers controlled play during short-game touches, the blade becomes dynamic and powerful when paired with a full swing. It is best suited for close-to-mid distance play, rewarding players who provide their own power, though it may be considered slightly slower than high-end all-out offensive blades.
  • Spin and Versatility: The blade excels at looping, providing excellent spin generation, especially when paired with hard, tacky Chinese rubbers or firmer ESN/Japanese options. It is noted for its stability in blocking and versatility in flat-hitting, making it a well-rounded option for intermediate players developing their offensive game.

I’m no expert, but two things stood out to me when I started using this blade.

First, it’s faster than I expected. Second, it makes commercial Hurricane 3 Neo rubbers (unboosted 38 and 39 hardness) come alive.

I will buy another one to try different rubbers. At the moment, I’m very impressed with Hurricane 3 on this good value blade.

Mine weighs 92 grams. In my opinion, the speed rating of 8.6 is incorrect.

Slow touches are inconsistent, but with a full swing, this blade’s power is very similar to (maybe even stronger than) a Viscaria.

The handle is slim, which suits me well. The hardness is a bit harder than medium. It only flexes with a full swing.

Overall, it’s a great quality and inexpensive Innerforce ALC blade.

Excellent wood, very good for beginner athletes, due to its weight and thin handle, with a good combination of rubbers it works very well.
