Donic Waldner Diablo Senso

Blade description:

This composite blade utilizes a 3+2 construction featuring glass fiber layers, which distinguishes its playing characteristics from traditional carbon alternatives. By replacing the intermediate ply of a standard all-wood limba/ayous composition with glass fiber, the blade achieves a balance between increased stiffness for flat hitting and a lingering dwell time for topspin shots. It provides a hard, direct feeling that retains a distinctly “woody” feedback, making it suitable for players who prioritize precise placement over raw, outright speed.

Key Playing Characteristics

  • Performance and Feel: The glass fiber composition creates a generous sweet spot, offering excellent control and high-level sensory feedback. It is characterized as a versatile, OFF- style blade that feels more direct than traditional all-wood versions.
  • Weight and Balance: The blade is known for its lightweight build and a weight distribution that favors the handle, contributing to its maneuverability.
  • Equipment Synergy: Performance is highly dependent on rubber selection; it pairs most effectively with medium-hardness rubbers. When used with very hard rubbers, the blade may feel sluggish, but it remains a strong choice for control-oriented loopers and all-round players who prioritize consistent blocking and controlled, spin-oriented play.

I’m using this with Tenergy 64 on my forehand and Glayzer on my backhand. This blade has a lot of control and feeling. You can distinguish if your opponent gives such an enormous spin. This blade suits very well with medium rubber. As this rubber brings the best out of this blade. With hard rubbers, it feels weak and slow. But with medium rubbers such as Tenergy, this is the best of all controlled blades. The glass fiber has an important role in its composition. It gives dwell time and a large sweet spot that the carbon blades don’t have. It is also a hard-feeling blade but composed of soft wood such as ayous and limba wood. The glass fiber gives this blade a hard feeling but enormous control. Sadly, it is not in the market, and it is rare to find. It is way better than Viscaria.

Nice handle. The blade seems to have good balance towards the handle. A good blade for intermediate to advanced level. Nice sweat spot given by glassfibre also feels very woody. You can play aggressively with fast rubbers. Overall excellent value for money, another fine blade for looping with control.

A blade that’s very close to the Waldner Senso “all wood” ones in terms of composition (the intermediate limba ply has been replaced here with a thin glass fiber ply).

Versatile would be the word that describes this blade best. It’s stiffer and a bit harder than the regular Waldner Senso, and thus far better for flat strokes. Still, the feeling on topspin is good, with a long enough dwell time (maybe thanks to the glass fiber, I don’t know). I’d say this blade is an OFF-, but I don’t find it faster than the WS; they just have a different feeling. This one is more direct and versatile, while the WS would suit topspin-only players a bit better.
