Donic Ovtcharov Carbospeed
Blade description:
The Donic Ovtcharov Carbospeed is a high-performance offensive blade designed for advanced players who prioritize explosive speed and power. Featuring a 3+2 construction, it utilizes a thick Kiri core surrounded by carbon layers and outer plies of Japanese Kiso Hinoki. With an overall thickness of approximately 6.8mm to 7.0mm, the blade is characterized by its significant stiffness, minimal vibration, and a very large sweet spot, making it exceptionally efficient for aggressive attacking styles.
Performance and Feel
- Speed and Power: This blade is widely recognized for its high-velocity output, excelling in power loops, flat hits, and aggressive smashes. It provides a linear throw that rewards technical precision.
- Control and Touch: Despite its speed, many users note that the Hinoki outer plies provide a surprisingly refined feel, allowing for controlled blocking and delicate short-game touch. However, due to its stiff and fast nature, it demands well-developed technique; players with poor stroke mechanics may find the ball difficult to keep on the table during high-intensity rallies.
- Balance: The blade is generally reported as well-balanced, though its feel can be heavily influenced by the weight and hardness of the chosen rubber. It pairs effectively with a wide range of rubbers, from medium-soft to hard, with many users recommending medium-hard options for increased stability.
Tactical Suitability
- Playstyle: It is best suited for offensive players who play close to the table or from medium distance. The blade is highly effective for counter-hitting, loop-driving, and active blocking.
- Equipment Pairing: While it can be used for pips-out play due to the catapult effect of the Hinoki surface, it is less suited for traditional chopping. The blade’s performance is highly sensitive to input; it requires active, consistent strokes to fully leverage its power. As a highly responsive composite blade, it is recommended for experienced players capable of managing a “lightning-fast” speed profile.

J’utilise cette lame depuis un peu près un an. Pour la rapidité des tops, elle a un contrôle incroyable. Plusieurs de mes amis l’ont aussi achetée après avoir essayé ma raquette.

This blade is fast and consistent, with a large sweet spot. The Hinoki outer ply provides excellent feel and durability. Its strength makes it difficult to break. Despite its power, you need good technique to use it effectively. You can’t just swing wildly and expect to hit the ball in play. With proper technique, you can generate significant power without excessive effort.

Donic Carbospeed is quite fast and stiff, but it offers good control. This blade is well-suited for attacking or blocking, looping, and smashing, close to the table or at medium distance. It pairs well with medium-soft to medium-hard rubber. I use SP or MP on the BH side and feel comfortable attacking or even blocking the fast loop opponent’s ball. This blade is highly recommended.
