The Donic Waldner OFF World Champion 89 blade is a quintessential choice for players seeking a perfect blend of speed, control, and craftsmanship. Inspired by the legendary player Jan-Ove Waldner, this blade features a unique construction of five plies, incorporating two outer spruce layers, a central layer of zylon-carbon, and a kiri core. This combination enhances the blade’s overall performance, offering precise feedback and a solid feel during play.
Weighing in at approximately 85 grams, the Waldner OFF 89 is classified as a medium-weight blade, which allows for a balanced maneuverability without sacrificing power. Its thickness of 6.9 mm contributes to a relatively stiff construction, designed for an offensive style of play. The blade also exhibits a moderate hardness rating of 5.4 and a flexibility score of 6, ensuring it’s capable of delivering powerful topspin as well as providing the necessary touch for delicate shots. Players appreciate the impressive control (rated at 9) that this blade offers, making it ideal for both aggressive attacks and strategic placements during matches.
For those exploring alternatives, the Waldner OFF 89 stands out against similar offerings in the Zylon-Carbon category, including the Butterfly ALC series. Users often praise its superior feel and responsiveness, with some recommending it for players looking for a balance of speed and touch in their blades. Overall, the Donic Waldner OFF World Champion 89 is an exceptional choice for attackers and all-round players alike, offering remarkable performance at a competitive price point.
A very good blade! Very stable and controllable, with the feeling that there is almost no speed limit.
Spruce Zylon-Carbon (ZLC) is a relatively thick wood, therefore stiff. It has a Spruce Kiri Zylon-Carbon (ZLC) Spruce Spruce composition, making it a good offensive tree that is well controlled. The internal structure is composite, which makes it faster than what was written on average.
The surface is relatively hard, therefore 42 or 45 degree sponges go well with it. For hard sponges, 48-50 degrees requires good technique. In the ZLC category, it is well worth the price.
Nice work.
The blade has a great feel and a very large sweet spot. I find it to be very well balanced, not head-heavy as I have read. The range of speed is really good and linear.
