Donic Persson Powerplay
Blade description:
The Donic Persson PowerPlay is a well-established 7-ply all-wood offensive blade known for its high level of control and balanced performance. It is frequently noted for its versatility, performing effectively across a wide range of techniques including loops, blocks, pushes, and smashes.
Playing Characteristics
- Speed and Feel: The blade falls into the OFF- to OFF speed range. It features hard Koto outer plies which provide crisp speed for attacks, while the internal construction allows for excellent ball feedback and dwell time.
- Flex and Control: Despite being a 7-ply blade, it maintains a degree of flexibility that aids in creating high-quality spin during looping. Players often note that the blade offers “out of this world” control, particularly when returning aggressive shots from an opponent.
- Construction: With an approximate thickness of 5.9mm, this blade is relatively thin for a 7-ply construction. This design helps maintain a responsive feel and good weight distribution, though some users may find it to be on the heavier side (around 89-90g).
- Versatility: The blade is suitable for a variety of styles, from close-to-table blocking and aggressive counter-hitting to mid-distance looping. Because of its reliable feedback, it is frequently used by players ranging from beginners developing their strokes to advanced competitors.
Considerations
- Maintenance: Users have noted that the surface may benefit from sealing to prevent splintering when removing rubbers.
- Grip: The handle finish is occasionally described as rough, which some players may find less comfortable depending on personal preference.
- Adjustment: The blade’s performance can be influenced by the grip position on the handle; holding it closer to the blade face increases stiffness for direct hitting, while gripping further down increases flex for touch shots and looping.

Fast, off- blade with exceptional flexibility. The defining characteristic of this blade is its “out of this world” control. It’s the most controlled blade among all 15 that I own.
Interestingly, the harder the opponent hits the ball, the more control you gain when returning it. This is impressive! I believe this control stems from the 3-ply ayous core, where each ply has the same thickness. It shares a similar core with blades like the Xiom Solo or Sanwei Fextra 7, which are also known for their control.
However, the Persson Powerplay has an advantage: a “foil” ply just beneath the outer koto plies, which dampens vibration and further enhances control. It’s essentially a 5-ply blade with a cushion ply.
Despite this focus on control, it’s still a genuinely fast blade, thanks to the beautiful koto outer ply and its weight. The weight is around 90g, which might be the only downside of this blade.
Ultimately, it’s a very unique and affordable product. I can’t bring myself to sell this blade, even though I currently play with the Xiom Solo (off) for increased power, albeit at the cost of some control.

It is a simple blade with good control for a beginner. However, I believe that for this price, it might be possible to find a better racket. Although, this one isn’t bad either.

The Donic Persson Powerplay is a 7-ply wooden blade weighing 90g. Crafted with quality materials and featuring an ergonomic grip, it boasts a nearly stiff elasticity.
This blade offers a well-balanced combination of speed, control, and spin, making it ideal for offensive plays while remaining versatile for defensive strategies. It is a reliable and adaptable choice, suiting all-around playing styles.
