Victas Balsa 5.5
Blade description:
This table tennis blade utilizes a 3+2 construction featuring balsa wood reinforced with glass fiber. The combination of the lightweight, soft balsa core and the composite layers provides a distinct balance of high speed and sustained control, particularly suited for players who prioritize a strategic game, including consistent blocking close to the table.
Performance and Feel
- Response Characteristics: The integration of glass fiber adds significant speed to the blade. Unlike traditional all-wood balsa blades, this model exhibits a muted, filled sensation during ball contact, reducing the pronounced springy effect often associated with thicker balsa setups.
- Stiffness and Feedback: The construction leans toward a stiffer feel when paired with certain rubbers, which can influence spin generation. Players transitioning between different thicknesses of this blade may notice variations in how rubbers engage with the surface, with thicker versions potentially feeling more rigid.
- Physical Considerations: The blade is known for its quality in construction and material finish. Users should be aware that the handle design is standard, which may feel thin or short for players who prefer a more substantial grip.
This composite blade is most effective for tactical players looking to leverage a fast, controlled touch for defensive and counter-attacking play near the table. Its dampened feel makes it a notable departure from traditional, highly springy balsa designs.

I love the feeling of the balsa blade, and the glass fiber gives it plenty of speed. For the all+ version, it is very fast, while still maintaining a high level of control.

Nice blade for a strategic game, good for blocking close to the table.

This blade is 5.5 and works well, but with Airoc-Astro, I found that the rubbers acted stiff and less spinny compared to the 5.0 blade and Airoc-s series rubbers.
I went back to my old setup and it is working well.
It just depends on how long you want to work with setups to find your best setup, but I am happy with my 5.0 blade setup.
