Yasaka Ebony Carbon
Blade description:
This blade is a powerful offensive instrument designed for players who prioritize raw speed and force. It features a 7+2 construction, utilizing two outer layers of ebony wood paired with two internal carbon layers and a five-ply wooden core. This configuration results in a stiff, fast blade that delivers a distinctively hard feel and a low throw angle, making it highly effective for aggressive drive and counter-topspin play.
Performance and Handling
- Feel and Feedback: Despite its high-speed output, the blade retains a wooden-like quality in its feedback. The placement of the carbon layers closer to the center provides a blend of power and touch that differs from blades with outer-carbon placement.
- Weight and Balance: The blade often exhibits a head-heavy weight distribution, which contributes to its power but may require a period of adjustment for players transitioning from balanced, all-wood blades.
- Technical Requirements: Due to the high speed and stiffness, this blade is best suited for experienced players with established technique. Short stroke movements are recommended to maximize control, particularly when blocking incoming high-speed topspin.
- Handle Characteristics: The blade is known for a high-quality finish and comfortable handle ergonomics, though some users may find the flared handle texture slippery, occasionally necessitating the use of an overgrip.

Ebony outer layers, plus two thin carbon layers, make for incredible speed. I used DHS Gold Arc 8 47.5 as my forehand rubber and Nittaku P1 as my backhand.
