Rubber description:

The Andro Rasanter R42 is a high-performance table tennis rubber designed to meet the needs of modern players seeking a blend of speed, spin, and control. With a speed rating of 9, spin at 9.2, and exceptional control at 9.3, the R42 is particularly favored by players who appreciate its ability to deliver powerful shots while maintaining precision. This rubber utilizes Andro’s tensor technology, creating a soft yet responsive feel that allows for excellent dwell time on the ball, making it a great choice for spin-heavy strokes.

In terms of tackiness, the R42 has a rating of 2.2, indicating a good balance for various playing styles without being excessively sticky. The weight of the rubber is categorized as light, weighing only 61 grams uncut in the 2.0mm thickness, which can significantly benefit players looking to reduce the overall heaviness of their paddle setup. Its lightweight nature is complemented by a medium sponge hardness of 42 degrees, providing a perfect blend of cushioning and responsiveness.

Durability is rated at 7.8, which is quite commendable, allowing players to enjoy consistent performance over multiple sessions. While some players have noted a decrease in spin production over time, the majority affirm that the R42 maintains its high-performance characteristics for an extended period. Alternatives to this rubber include the Rasanter R47 for those seeking added speed and the Rasanter R37 for enhanced control.

Ultimately, the Andro Rasanter R42 stands out as an excellent rubber for players who balance control and aggression, making it a worthy addition to the arsenal of any serious table tennis athlete.

As an intermediate level player, I find the Rasanter R42 (max) to be a good choice for the backhand and have been using it for over two years now. It has enough spin to trouble opponents, the throw angle is high enough to attack a backspin ball without being too challenging, it has good control, and the sponge is soft enough (without being too soft) to be a little accommodating with imperfect technique, which I find helpful while refining my backhand loop against a backspin.

In addition to the above, it is very light, which means it’s easier to respond quickly, less likely to cause injury, and you can pair it with a heavier rubber on the forehand without the combination getting too heavy.

For context, I pair it with a Nittaku Fastarc G-1 (max) on the forehand (which has a slightly harder sponge) on an OSP Virtuoso (off-) all wood blade (which I find great for control and spin, and despite experimenting, I cannot find a blade that suits me better).

The only disappointment is that this rubber appears to be creeping up in price.

I like a soft rubber; these are soft enough and play well.
