Andro Rasanter R42
Rubber description:
The Andro Rasanter R42 is a tensor rubber designed to perform well with the plastic ball. It features a soft-to-medium sponge (42 degrees) that provides a balance between spin potential, speed, and, notably, high control.
Playing Characteristics
- Spin and Dwell Time: This rubber is recognized as a spin-oriented choice, offering a satisfying dwell time that aids in looping against backspin and executing opening shots. While it produces significant spin, it is often described as more forgiving than extreme professional-grade rubbers.
- Speed and Catapult: It provides a noticeable catapult effect, making it efficient for mid-distance play and powerful attacks, though it is generally perceived as more manageable and less aggressive than harder, high-tension alternatives.
- Control and Forgiveness: A hallmark of the R42 is its high level of control, making it a popular choice for intermediate players or those refining their technique. Its lower sensitivity to incoming spin makes it highly effective for blocking and short-game exchanges.
- Throw Angle: It possesses a high throw angle, which assists in clearing the net during topspin rallies and opening up on backspin balls.
Physical Features
- Weight: The rubber is consistently noted for being lightweight, which helps prevent setups from becoming head-heavy and allows for quicker recovery during rallies.
- Versatility: It is widely used as a backhand rubber due to its reliability in flicking and blocking, but it is also capable on the forehand for players who prefer a softer feel and a more controlled, spin-based offensive style. It functions well across a variety of blade types, ranging from all-wood to carbon constructions.

As an intermediate level player, I find the Rasanter R42 (max) to be a good choice for the backhand and have been using it for over two years now. It has enough spin to trouble opponents, the throw angle is high enough to attack a backspin ball without being too challenging, it has good control, and the sponge is soft enough (without being too soft) to be a little accommodating with imperfect technique, which I find helpful while refining my backhand loop against a backspin.
In addition to the above, it is very light, which means it’s easier to respond quickly, less likely to cause injury, and you can pair it with a heavier rubber on the forehand without the combination getting too heavy.
For context, I pair it with a Nittaku Fastarc G-1 (max) on the forehand (which has a slightly harder sponge) on an OSP Virtuoso (off-) all wood blade (which I find great for control and spin, and despite experimenting, I cannot find a blade that suits me better).
The only disappointment is that this rubber appears to be creeping up in price.

I like a soft rubber; these are soft enough and play well.
