Butterfly Bryce

Rubber description:

This is a tensor rubber designed primarily for aggressive attackers who prioritize raw speed and power over high-spin generation. It features a dense sponge and high-tension technology that creates a pronounced “kick” and significant acceleration, particularly during smashes, counters, and loop-drives. Because the topsheet is not tacky, generating heavy spin is more challenging compared to specialized spin-oriented rubbers.

Performance Characteristics

  • Speed and Dwell Time: This rubber is characterized by its high-velocity output and a relatively low throw angle. It provides a sharp, crisp feeling on impact but requires precise stroke mechanics to maintain consistency, as it can be quite bouncy.
  • Control and Sensitivity: It is highly sensitive to incoming spin, requiring the player to have advanced technique to manage serve returns and fast exchanges. Control can decrease significantly on extremely stiff or carbon-heavy blades, where the rubber may become difficult to tame.
  • Suitability: Performance is heavily influenced by the blade choice; it generally pairs best with soft or medium-hardness blades to balance its inherent hardness and weight. It is widely considered an advanced-level rubber, as it demands high-level technical accuracy to prevent shots from sailing past the table.

Horrible balance between spin and speed. The rubber produces low throw.

This is a good rubber for forehand and backhand. I used Mark 5 on my forehand and Bryce on my backhand. When I first hit a high shot, it went very fast. I ordered Bryce Speed FX when I saw the review. I think Bryce is the best rubber from Butterfly.

I used this rubber to achieve greater speed on kill smashes with my forehand. It excels in this aspect, leaving my opponents perplexed by the ball’s sudden acceleration. One aptly described it as “the ball exploding from your blade.”

Despite its exceptional speed, the rubber has a hard, heavy feel, lacking in control and spin. I subsequently replaced it with a Bluefire M3 to improve control and spin. However, if raw speed is your priority, this rubber remains an excellent choice.
