Butterfly Rubber Review

This rubber excels for backhand use. As expected from Butterfly products, it boasts high quality. It provides medium throw, medium spin, and above-average speed. While it may be slightly soft, it maintains its firmness. Compared to the Tenergy series, it offers less pace but exhibits a more linear trajectory than tensor rubbers.

The rubber boasts superb speed, making it an excellent choice for players prioritizing pace in their game. However, it may not fully align with the requirements and preferences of my playing style.

This fast rubber is a good choice for backhand play.

Brye Speed FX is an excellent rubber for forehand play. Its speed and control are well-balanced, and it provides a slight spin. I had a very enjoyable experience using this rubber and would recommend it for forehand players.

Review

Tested in black, 1.9 mm, performs better on the backhand side. If it were 2.10 mm, it would possibly also work well on the forehand side. It has very good control, more than the Tenergy-05. Although it generates less spin and speed, I prefer this rubber because it is more reliable and versatile. It has a good trajectory, medium-high, and works well for blocking and chopping close to the table. It also allows for easy entry into the topspin stroke, although it is not as aggressive as the Tenergy-05. It offers a bit more control and is faster and generates more spin than the Sriver, but it lasts less. I do not give it a higher rating because it is an excessively expensive product, and there are other Chinese rubbers that perform almost the same and cost significantly less.

This rubber is among the best, but it might not pair well with a hard blade like the Sardius.

IMPOSSIBLE TO PLAY WITH LIGHTER BALLS with this rubber. Such as the yellow JOERAX Tabletannis balls which are sometimes used in competitions as there would be extremely low feel, as well as the control would be very less.

It’s better to buy a Tenergy rubber than this rubber.

Excellent speed!

Really fast rubber that generates more spin than the original Bryce Speed. It has a soft sponge, but it doesn’t lack control. Its lifetime is significantly longer compared to Bryce (rated “lasts longer than average”). I’d say it’s a good choice for universal attackers as it provides a variable game.

Whoa! This rubber can do things I can’t. I couldn’t be happier with it.

It’s a killer like a viper. Fast and merciless.

#11 — January 2011

This is once of the best professional rubbers in the world (before Tenergy showed up). It is also known as one of the fastest rubbers in the world. This is one thing that you should try.

#12 — December 2010

Butterfly Bryce Speed FX is not faster than Butterfly Bryce Speed… because the sponge hardness is very soft and that reduces the speed a little bit.

It is more controllable.

Generally, if you try to use it, you will like it.

One of the best table tennis rubbers!
It has the best FX tempo, the best feeling, and very good control. However, for me, it does not have enough spin.
Buy it if you are an aggressive two-winged offensive player who likes softer rubbers!

Great rubber. The ball stays incredibly low and charges forward when playing topspin. Blocking is out of this world; it’s the best rubber for blocking that I have ever used. The harder, faster, and spinnier the ball is hit, the faster it goes back with plenty of control over the shot.

When pushing or playing soft blocks against short serves, it seems to send the ball back with very little spin because the ball is not sinking into the rubber with these shots. I win a lot of points just by touching a spinny serve back, leaving the opponent nothing to work with.

The spin is produced with shots that make the ball sink into the sponge. This rubber relies more on mechanical spin than friction spin, meaning that a player can produce high spin and speed during a powerful rally (when the ball sinks in) but not have to work hard to control spinny serves (when the ball does not sink in).

I would recommend this as a backhand rubber for power spin and offensive block. Blocking powerful spinny loops is easy with this rubber; in fact, it’s a pleasure. Looping against chop with backhand takes the best technique as it’s a lot harder to do because of the extremely low throw angle.

Pros:

  • Fastest FX version
  • Good control with a nice feeling
  • Suitable for offensive players who prefer fast and soft rubbers
  • Ideal for mid-distance or distance play

Cons:

  • Low spin generation
  • Very low throw angle

In my opinion, this is a great rubber and the best backhand rubber available from Butterfly.

#17 — April 2010

Best rubber I’ve ever had! Amazing speed, spin, and control. Must buy.

#18 — February 2010

I am giving it a rating of -1, not 10, because one pair of 1.9 was not identical to previous 1.9 or 2.1 versions I have tried. The latest pair has a much harder sponge, resulting in a loss of touch, control, and speed.

Additionally, I deduct one more point because one pair costs 70 euros.

Very good for backhand loopers.

#20 — November 2009

I like it as a backhand rubber. It has a nice catapult feel, not too fast or too slow, and is very controllable. It gives me confidence when I’m looping those hard chops or short pushes. It creates a nice curve on the ball. The downside is that it’s not enough to put the ball away, but it can open up for a forehand shot.

#21 — October 2009

Based on its intended purpose, I give this rating. It counterloops well. Blocks offer excellent control but are very fast. Looping dead balls and counter-driving is easy, but looping under-spin requires good technique. This is an exceptional backhand rubber. The lower throw angle makes it ideal for fast, spiny loops and backhand drives. The sponge is soft for good control on over-the-table shots and blocking and looping at mid to long distances from the table.

The Bryce Speed Fx Red 2.1mm is a unique rubber with a low throw angle. Despite its low throw, it offers decent spin and control. The shots produced with this rubber are extremely fast, making it suitable for advanced players with a solid stroke and consistent shots.

It excels as a backhand rubber for smashing, looping, and blocking. Its low throw and high spin and control allow for easy counterlooping. However, it may not be the ideal choice for players seeking high fly, high arc loops.

The ball tends to go almost straight out, requiring precise timing and good strokes. Its ability to generate fast, spinny, “charging” shots makes it a great option for backhand play.

Butterfly Fastest Rubber

The Butterfly Fastest Rubber is the fastest rubber available from Butterfly today. This rubber is a great choice for long-distance players. Its speed is incredible and its thinness makes it optimal for me. The quality is also very high. I highly recommend this rubber.

#24 — November 2008

Damn, what a speedy rubber! You can produce very much speed and spin (also when you swat). I guess better than Tenergy, but you have to decide yourself what’s better.

#25 — October 2008

The best rubber for players who are attackers, quick, and with great control.

It allows long-distance attacks on the table without compromising control and spin.

I recommend it to anyone who enjoys playing fast and with spin.

#26 — June 2008

This rubber is essentially a faster version of Bryce FX. It plays very consistently and offers a great feel. If you previously used Bryce or Bryce FX and seek a faster replacement due to the new glue ban, this rubber might be a suitable option.

I recommend it for attackers who prioritize speed over spin.
