Butterfly Bryce Speed is renowned for being one of the fastest rubbers available on the market, tailored for players seeking an aggressive offensive game. Its performance is characterized by speed (rated at 14) coupled with impressive spin potential (9.8) and decent control (8), making it a formidable choice for experienced players. The rubber’s non-tacky surface delivers a unique playstyle, allowing for rapid strokes and potent counterattacks but can present challenges when it comes to generating a high arc or delicate topspin shots.
In terms of tackiness, Bryce Speed rates quite low (1.4), which contributes to its high speed but can be a disadvantage for players who rely heavily on spin. The rubber has a medium hardness sponge (6.7), weighing 5.4 in total, which makes it a significant, yet manageable, addition to any blade. Players often note that while its speed enhances offensive plays, it may compromise control when blocking or returning layered spins, particularly at the beginner level.
Durability is considered above average (7.3), but users report variance in longevity, with some noting a decline in performance over time. Alternatives to Bryce Speed include rubbers like the Butterfly Bryce Speed FX for those desiring more control or options like the classic Sriver for better durability and spin.
Overall, for aggressive players focused on speed and effective blocking, Bryce Speed elevates performance when mastered. However, it requires a skillful hand to navigate its strengths and weaknesses, making it essential for players to find the right balance in their game.
The fastest rubber out there, no doubts. However, it lacks a lot of control when blocking.
Okay, I just recently changed my game, including equipment. I use Violin with Bryce Speed for forehand and FX for backhand.
One of the best blocking rubbers out there for those who play close to the table. This is on par with T05 when used for playing close to the table, depending on your game. T05’s higher throw helps with looping close to the table, but the Bryce Speed is more than capable for looping close to the table but has slightly less margin of error.
